It's an amazing map, it's classic style but also VERY intuitive with its puzzles and layouts, but it has its share of issues.

The entire first part relies entirely on point lights and there is no sector shading. In fact, if you play with the classic 8-bit renderer the front of the pyramid looks fullbright (like it's not affected by visibility reduction due to distance) which makes it stick out like a sore thumb.

Then in the pyramid, it uses the Newbeast enemy in ways which render them harmless. Newbeasts' shots go in a straight line, but they're either used around slopes in the main corridor, or in a room with several height differences, meaning you're highly unlikely to ever get hit by them.

Then, there is health ratio. Too many atomic healths, there is like 3 of them back to back at one point.

The cracked walls you can explode to create shortcuts are very well placed (always brings you to the next room you have to go in, which avoids backtracking) but they're marked as "secrets", which is just dumb.

And finally, the Serious Sam sprite should have been gibb-able. All the corpses sprites are in the original game, but that's an issue with Alien World Order in general: none of the new sprites can be interacted with, except one which can be destroyed, and which is the only one which shouldn't be destroyable....

Technically speaking, I think the most impressive map from a commercial Build game is the factory map (6th level iirc) in Redneck Rampage Rides Again. it's also a great map even if you don't take into account the technical aspects

>> No.4472605

You can shoot Sam to gibs, just 2 shotgun shots are needed.

Atomic health ratio is always big in commercial levels as they are played by casuals as well.

Newbeasts are good fit there due to atmosphere. They are not as dangerous as in levels like Derelict, but the entire middle part is about atmosphere, and not mindless shooting like the rest of the episode.

The start maze is often criticized, but it just a nice build up to your adventures. The entire level feels like a mini episode with its two theme changes.

Right? I succumbed to his 4 year long Rides Again marketing campaign and bought the game. It fucking sucks, I was right when I was 10 years old. Don't get the game lads.

not the guy you're responding to, but it's a perfect example of how awkward it gets when high res textures are used in an otherwise low-poly game world. the sprites are also awkward with their high resolution.

FUCK no. It's fugly, predictable, sparsely detailed, balance is all over the place, first half is literally Wolf3D-worthy, and in general it sucks big fat PC-Powerslave's cock.

Also it's pretty much a Dark Side reskin (in the "It's even bigger than I expected!"-times-5 sense) with none of the artistry and magic of the original.

Sure, it's easy to predict that you will solve elemental puzzles when you're outside of the pyramid. It's also predictable that an Egypt level ends up on space.

Are your parents siblings anon? That could explain your mental illness.

It's easy to predict the other three puzzles after the first one. All four are boring too, and only chip in the quantity, not the quality of the map's content.
>It's also predictable that an Egypt level ends up on space.
To be frank, "dem ancient Egyptians dem aliens dude" is a pretty common trope. Also, aforementioned PC-Powerslave did have at least one map that started in the ground and ended in the alien spaceship (and it was bigger, prettier and had an infinitely better layout than this hackjob).
