Amiga for me. My parents had a business and needed a Computer for office work. The Amiga was one of the cheaper options, especially in comparison to an IBM compatible. In hindsight it may have not been the best choice, but it worked, after a fashion. And I got to play stuff like Sim City and Dune on it.
The one thing that stayed with me was the sound and music. Still sounds good today.

Purely in terms of hardware and graphical prowess, the X68000 was objectively the best. It was pretty much an arcade machine in a tower case. Most of its games were iffy port jobs, though. In terms of original games, I'd probably say the Amiga was better.

What's rare or odd about an NTSC C64? They sold at least several million of them. The Amiga I give you since only 700,000 were sold in North America.

Why?

Also nope, they are pretty on par year-by-year release-by-release.
One is better for a few months, the other gets a new model out, that one is better for a few months, then the first one gets a new model out and is better for a few months again, rinse and repeat.

Man, 16-bit home computers (with the exception of the TI-99) are so much better than the 8-bit crap. I used to like the 8-bit stuff, but that was because I was a Basic peasant ignorant of assembly language and computer architecture. The m68k is a pleasure to program for compared to the 6502 or the Z80.

the big difference is that it's not an IBM-compatible, which is probably the distinction OP actually wanted

they shipped with MS-DOS up until Windows took over, and then the PC-98 market died because there wasn't any point since Windows handled whatever platform differences there were for applications so there was no point in not getting cheaper IBM compatibles

Both the Amiga series of machines and the X68000 are beasts.
The custom m68k compatible CPU in the X68k was a beast for it's time and the graphics where amazing. It was a true workstation machines in capability and price. It was used by many arcade developers because it's graphics.
The Amiga on the other hand was truly a home multimedia machine for it's time, it was cheap and powerful. The custom chipset did wonders for its price point.
