Whatever, it is the key to open the bridge to the final section, Tourian, where Mother Brain is. You need to defeat both Kraid and Ridley. Come back to the same room and their statues will be flashing. Shoot both to extend the bridge.

Or even just by playing the game. It'll eventually become clear; it's not like you need to spend ten thousand hours searching every pixel on the map to find out what the room does. You just go back to it once or twice when you don't know where else to go, to see whether you can do anything there yet, and it naturally becomes clear.

First you need to find those guys on the game and kill them, once you do that, you need to come back there and shoot them so the bridge will spawn and let you go to the final area
