Repostan my thing:

how to get frustrated with doom even more:

1. download ZDoom 2.6.1 or it's GZDoom counterpart (doesn't work on zandronum)
2. copy http://pastebin.com/zy2ZEqpb into mapinfo.txt
3. either drag the textfile into zdoom.exe or create the bat file that loads the file so you can play other WADs
4. ???
5. have... fun, i guess.

Ultra-Violence - like UV in vanillia doom, except monsters behave like nightmare except respawning
Nightmare - like NM in vanillia doom, except without double ammo
Rape - Less ammo, less armor, monsters have 2x health and respawn way quicker, you receive 2x damage. Good luck.
Heaven and Hell - everything instagibs everything.
Hell and Hell - everything instagibs you. find the cover.
Tough Guys - all monsters have 10x more hp. you receive slightly less damage and you can find shitload of ammo
Everything Sucks - like UltraViolence, except the good pickups are replaced by their weaker counterparts. no BFG and chaingun

at least it should work like that. please tell me if i've fucked up somewhere in the mapinfo file

Overall I liked it, however:

--they used too many random new monsters, the lion ones seemed ridiculous to me and the shadows in particular pissed me right off since they were nothing but dodge city.

--they overused darkness in phobos labs and it made the entire level crap. The best way imo to use darkness is to have sections that are dangerous and dark alternated with lighted areas so the player dreads going into them, but when the entire level is pitch black it becomes annoying and tedious rather than spooky or level-enhancing or harder.

--the boss fight at the very end was just terrible. I don't know why they did that, it looked like crap. It was like claymation and shitty 90s CGI had a baby with down's syndrome and that was the sprite we got. They didn't even really need an entirely original boss since this is one of the times that an ultrahard baron recolor/resprite would have been exactly what was needed.

The architecture was the best part, and that was done very well. Also the way that the level would change as you progressed through it in some levels. The gameplay was good except for the parts mentioned. That's what you'd expect from Tormenter667 though, his forte is architecture.

As I said before I enjoyed it overall.

I wanted to address two points real quick:

1. Doom64 needs more recognition. I played it for the first time recently and it's really fucking cool. Visually the most impressive of the Dooms that came before 3, and I really like the redesigns of the enemies and weapons. The whole things feels like a big fucking load of Quake was poured into it.

2. Strife. I never ever heard of this game before and just recently played it thanks to GZdoom. This game is hella interesting. Like a fully fletched RPG or something. I couldn't get around thinking that is felt like some sort of prototype for Dishonored.

I also didn't like it's shotguns since they were so.. Weak and with an awful sound.

I dunno who you think I am, but I actually do have access to that game via my roommate. I was just commenting as a huge Ed3 fan from back in the day. I've seen the episodes enough times to pretty well picture what's going on in everybody's houses.

The Christmas special is helpful too, you see the rare insides of houses like those of Rolf, Jimmy, and Johnny.

Well I use these brushes in addition to a drawing tablet-ish kind of tablet thing:

By using some weird brush to get a smooth structure (the 11px one in the package) - usually at greater/smaller sizes depending on how big the subject is. Assisted by a bigger-than-10px smooth brush to get the shading move even.

And then some fine detailing with the 1px brush.

..AND THEN OF COURSE SOME ODD YEAR OR SO OF PRACTICE THAT NOBODY EVER MENTIONS (Most important bit! Oh snap!)

The real issue with it is that it gives players bad habits that doesn't really apply to how Doom normally works.

For example, with mouse look the Chaingun turns into a sniper rifle because of it's 100% accuracy on the first two shots. Allowing players to pick off anything at far distances.

Rockets also become a lot easier to use for the same reason.

I don't really mind what a person uses, as long as they enjoy the game and don't do things that shouldn't be used like jump/crouch(Both break the game far more)

To be frank, a lot of the problems I had with advancement in KDiZD were that the levels are cramped, switches affect areas in far off places, there are tons of branches and dead ends, and yet you pretty much have to do things in a certain order to get anywhere. This will frustrate the player if they are unable to find the hidden passage to proceed, figure out what changed after hitting a switch, or UNFing the right wall or console to move forward.

If you're going to make it a requirement to need EVERY single key and switch hunt possible, then break things into more wide-open, visible areas. That way it's easier for players to spot changes in the map, and if you throw in monsters -- monsters that aren't dead are a sure sign that you should probably go in that direction. Place monsters and traps appropriately.

Depending on if the graphics file has transparancy stuff built in you may or may not need to fiddle with the existing w/threshold / transparant color cyan radio buttons. I like the rest of the ideas. Being able to go after, say, red or yellow first, or having one or two main areas that clearly shows obstacles that need something to advance (red/yellow door, a set of red/yellow bars in front of an ominous door) gives the player a clear goal that is fairly easy to understand.
