if it's no clear because my MS paints skills are really horrible, I think that sprite looks like mario's got a really big shoe, kind of like a kid uses his father's shoes. It's just the shadow of the cape that uses the same color, and I knew that because when you move Mario, you can see the cape moving, and the real size of the shoes, but I couldn't unsee those big shoes whenever mario was standing still.

I'd be surprised if I was the only one.

I always thought it to be like the right one, but now I can see how you thought to be like the left.

I see what you mean but the problem with your drawing is that the sock is light blue while in the sprite the bottom of the pants are dark blue...so its kind of hard to get at first
