I work at an arcade and do machine work there.

I'm thinking about designing an arcade machine or a pinball. I've got plenty of empty cabinets, hardware, and coding experience, but sorely lacking on gameplay ideas.

What would absolutely rake in the quarters?

Something with microtransactions and DLC.

Justin Beiber pinball.

What hardware platform are you going to use? Build something yourself out of a bigass FPGA, recycle an existing boardset, use a cart system, etc?

Something with ponies to attract the fags. You'll rake in the loot.

It would be easier to just buy a cheap computer and program something for windows. Stick that in the cabinet.

I'd like to see a COD themed pinball machine, thinking about all the elements you could incorporate seems like it'd be a lot of fun

I've got plenty of singleboard computers with I/O boards I could wire up, FPGAs and even the good ol' modern method of slapping a tower in there.

I just need gameplay ideas.

If you enjoy spending months on hardware.

Or you could just take the smart route and program a game on a preexisting computer.

You could easily write a game on something like the Neo-Geo (very well documented), CPS2 (fairly well documented), or ST-V (poorly documented) without messing at all with hardware design.

I've got lots of target hardware I can use. I could use anything from a Z-80 all the way up to a computer stack.

My roommate does embedded system designs, so I've got access to a lot of hardware.

Writing kernel-mode programs does not involve "spending months on hardware". Find a boardset you like, find a programmer's manual, grab a GCC toolchain, and start programming.

I'm picturing a large cabinet with a marquee that reads "Social Gaming: The Game". There are security cameras all over it that record you, and play back the recording during the attract sequence. The gameplay consists of pushing a single button over and over for a set amount of time. That amount of time can be extended by putting in more quarters.

You know what arcades need nowadays. Beer and food. That's the best way to draw in the adult crowd along with the kids. A fucking 30 year old guy on a nostalgia binge could justify going in there by buying his bitch a sandwich. Kids will still be attracted by the flashing lights and loud noises.

Plenty of adults walk right past arcades because it's "childish"...this would mitigate that. The best way to maintain an increasing profitability is not to just expand your business; but expand the number of customers ATTRACTED to your business in the first place.

You could get an iOS game machine. Those seem to be pretty popular, and fun too. If it's not too costly, a Fruit Ninja machine might do really well. Infinity Blade's okay too but it's kind of a shitty game so I'd skip it.
