I like how the manual contains a walkthru for a good chunk of the game, and flat out tells you to grind and savescum.

>> No.4456543

>>4456281
Aren't classic RPGs predominantly savescumming anyway? Seems that a lot of things I read about them says that you should keep extra saves handy and reload whenever something goes wrong for you, rather than go through the boring opening over and over again.

You like sim games? Then stay the fuck away from Wall Street Kid on the NES.

The game is mostly pre-set on how the stocks operate, so much so that strategy is to buy one of the two major value stocks that get occasional price bumps, then selling when they bump. Rinse, repeat the entire game. It's painfully easy, and painfully boring. Every other shitty game on the NES at least has gameplay, this doesn't even have that.

PlayStation JRPGs with long ass cutscenes for every attack and loading everywhere.

I own FFIX and I could only stand to play that the time I played it through a emulator with a fast forward option.

I got to the Ice Cave on real hardware and decided to start over on an emulator, it's that bad.

I wish they realized it sooner to try to just make a good RPG game with computer friendly mechanics rather than try to imitate D&D in every single aspect

To some extent but it varies from game to game. Just because you can save everywhere doesn't mean you particularly need to. A few, like early Wizardry, attempt to discourage save scumming, and/or don't officially support it (like you have to back up your own files). Debatable how often they're actually properly balanced to be played that way.

In Faery Tale Adventure's case I think it's more a matter of acknowledging that you can be screwed over pretty much at random with no way to recover. Also Genesis version uses a password system so g/l ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

I fell in love with Final Fantasy especially because of the over the top attack animations.

I'm super disappointed that they don't do that anymore.

I fucking played the PAL version of FFIX and never had a problem. Do you guys have ADHD or something?

You have to admit the battles are painfully slow, compared to PAL VII or even VIII, putting summons aside.

I agree although there some of those games do enough well for me to like then overall. But I find IX to be as boring as you do. VIII puts me to sleep also, and for how good parasite eve is at times the ten minutes of narrative for every minute of gameplay puts me to sleep also.

>> No.4458256

>>4458208
It's not new at all, they have been doing this with IX and even V for a few years now, VIII is actually the latest trend.

Y'know, I liked these threads better when you'd dump the template and all the anons would go for if from there.

>> No.4458479

>>4458210
Not those anons, but I grew up with NES and SNES RPGs where the transition time was 2-3 seconds. I have no problems with the long time it takes ALL PSX RPGs to load battles, but some ADHD kids on the internet have decided that because FF9 has the longest time of FF games, it is uniquely painful to sit through. It's 15 seconds, vs 10 seconds for FF7. Watch videos on youtube if you don't believe me, it's 5 seconds difference. 7-8 second increase was no issue for me, but 5 seconds is far too much for these people. To them 5 seconds is the difference between timeless fun and "OMG IT'S SO SLOW!!!"

It's not ADHD, I value the time I dedicate to my entertainment and watching loading screens and the same overly long cutscene in battle over and over again is not that fun. This is why I prefer arcade games and I don't bother with these anymore: they have the highest fun to time ratio.

>I'm not hyperactive
>I just don't have the patience for RPGs
This is the third time today I've seen someone try to use the "I'm not really X, but I am X" argument today. Is this a new meme or something?

>> No.4458887

>>4458880
It's one thing to not have patience for something you like (and you need patience and perseverance to improve to 1cc and score in arcades). It's another thing to waste your time, which is what happens with those games; I guess it doesn't help that I don't like the gameplay that much even when I'm playing and not just watching it.

And it's been years since I've played FFIX, it's not something I'm doing right now

>> No.4458912

>>4458902
So you are marking one of the more popular FF games as "The most boring game in the world" just because it's A)a genre you don't like and B) you are STILL butthurt over 5 additional seconds of loading all these years later? Thread is for games that are actually bad, not just "I didn't like it!" If you wanna just shit on games why not make another "Overrated Games General" thread?

>> No.4458942

>>4456543
Some are definitely prone to the blind jump problem of platformers, in that you go to a new area thinking you're at an OK level, only to encounter an enemy that can wipe out your party members in maybe one or two hits, but the run mechanics are such that you wind up getting killed or wasting tons of healing items before it lets you flea the battle.

>> No.4458951

>>4458912
Calm your tits with your argumentum ad populum. It was one of the most boring experiences I've had with video games personally since I don't usually play games that look boring to begin with. Of course there are worse games like maybe Secret of the Stars for SNES but I haven't even tried them unlike FFIX.
