This one's iffy. Mario and Luigi were clearly born in the Mushroom Universe if Yoshi's Island says anything, and they later came to the real world/Earth but found their way back to the Mushroom World

The official art right above Bowser Jr. is Baby Bowser. Koopa Kid appeared first as a character in Mario Party during the 5th Generation and Bowser Jr.'s first appearance was in Mario Sunshine, roughly five years later.

Maybe Bowser Jr. is more of a homage to his father? Koopa Kid hasn't been forgotten in spin-off games, however, which just makes shit all the more confusing.
