That console would've finally had a JRPG

It's really only about average NES asskicking levels of hard. Which is to say, it's hard, and you will die if you aren't prepared or do stupid shit, but if you're properly level(grind)ed and are prepared for what's to come, you should be able to make it through with only moderate difficulty.

At least until you get to Mt Itoi.
At that point the game throws off the kid gloves and declares your ass to be ripe for plucking.
At that point the game

>> No.441585

I just got to that part on my first playthrough too. It was a really well done scene too, with Ana standing in the doorway unexpectedly.

I've been playing this game for a couple months now. The encounter rate just makes it impossible to play for more than an hour or so at a time. But I guess it makes it so the game stays with you for a long time whether you want to or not.

It is because it fixes all of the bugs of the original and it makes the Easy Ring optional in case you want to go about the game as it was originally intended.

Personally I think it sucks massively compared to Earthbound and Mother 3, but if you're into Dragon Quest-y stuff I would go for it.

I really have to complete Mother 1 one of these days. I got to around Reindeer, then I just lost the will to play. Probably had something to do with the encounter rate and having to warp back to Magicant to grind the fuck out of my party members every time I got a new one.

While it's true that Itoi said something like that on an interview once, some people seem to take it way too literal. You know, he's Itoi, if he says "Please make Mother 4 yourself, doing 3 was enough for me" not necessarily means that anyone can make Mother 4.
Also he knows what makes the Mother games good. It's not the cute pixelated little peanuts, nor the incredible music, nor the gameplay; it's his writing. Mother 1, 2 and 3 had different people working on them, but there was always Itoi behind all the text and story planning.

I remember about 2 years ago or so, there was an Itoi x Iwata interview released on famitsu I think, and there was clearly "Mother 4" on the liner note.
Nobody wanted to go apeshit because we knew it was highly unlikely, but yeah basically Itoi reaffirmed he's not making Mother 4, but gave a very nice alternative instead: Mother 4 is the lives of all the players put together.
I mean, oh wow it's fucking nothing, but it's a very beautiful way of saying "nah sorry, not going to happen".

There were a few other RPGs for the N64, but only released in Japan.

>>453831
>Yeap cuz it has some gameplay improvements and you won't need to grind like crazy.

The improvement is that the NOA version (Earthbound Zero) has a additional and more complete ending than the abrupt ending Mother 1 JP has (although nice and elegant, I love how they ending credits start rolling with the 3 kids standing at the top of Holy Loly after Gyiyg escapes, it just looks nice, but it's too abrupt).
It also has some censorship (blood, crosses, etc), and some dungeons were redesigned to be less confusing. Gameplay-wise, the only additional thing was a being able to run on the overworld map, which is actually a debugging tool the guys at NOA thought would be useful for players, so they left it on the final game. It looks kind of shit because when you use it, every NPC also starts "running" - they stay on their spots, but start moving like in fast forward. They fixed this on Mother 1+2: you can run by pressing R, but only you run, the NPCs stay normal. They also included all the censorship and the complete ending of EB Zero on M1+2, they just ported that version of the game to the GBA, and not the original Famicom release.
As far as difficulty goes with enemies and battles, I think it's the same, they haven't changed that, unless there's a change I didn't know about.
I have yet to do a proper playthrough of the original Mother 1 for Famicom. I plan it to do it someday to see these old evil dungeons and sections that can get you lost.

>> No.457852

>>444658
The easy ring isn't part of the game, the fan translation of mother 1+2 adds this item.

Basically, it reduces the encounter rate and increases the experience and money you gain from battles.
That's all.
