>Just replaying this on my loyal PSP

After all this years still the best TR

The level design is PERFECT, and DAT Venice.

>> No.4440134

I don't like how Lara became a murderer in Venice. The boats are neat but the start is awfully corridory

>> No.4440310

It's kill or be killed in the rundown arse-end of Venice that Bartolli's cult has taken over.
She's not running around the touristy, populated areas blasting regular people.

TR2 hit the perfect balance of human enemies imo. I'll always prefer zero to a handful of humans like 1, but TR2 did it right.

>> No.4440630

I'll always prefer the first to the second. The first game had so much wonder and awe to the levels. The second one doesn't really give me that feeling quite as much.

What I mean is unlike the rest of the series, 2 didn't send armies of goons after you. I still prefer having no human bad guys until the end where it's only a couple guys like TR 1.

I live near there too. Shit hole aint it?

Been up Ashbourne to what used to be Core Design?

Best part was locking the old butler inside the refrigerator chamber at the manor

I totally understand people who prefer 1 and I will readily admit it has better atmosphere and "tomb raiding" feel. But, mechanically, 2 is such a big improvement to me that I find it harder to replay 1. I always want to play 2 instead. The level design is off the charts, considering the limited engine they were working with. The best levels like Temple of Xian are ridiculously elaborate deathtraps that take you on a journey, and I like that the devs were committed to EVERY level being like that, even if it's supposed to be in a regular place like an opera house. Fuck it, make it the most contrived and puzzle-like D&D dungeon opera house in existence, then. Is it stupid? Yes, and it does hurt the atmosphere, but I love how it feels like they were trying their damndest to out-do the original.

Also, TR2 added some nice touches like the flares (which last a long time and are actually useful), mid-air rolling, climbing, and the underwater 180. Simple things but much smoother to play. The air-roll in particular is sorely missed during combat in TR1.

I still remember being hyped for flares in the previews of TR 2. Still useful to this day honestly, wish more games used them.

That and Floating Islands were really cool levels. Decently challenging too.

I live in Nottz m8, but commute there for my aerospace job. Not been up Ashbourne.

Do you like Retroworld in the Eagle Market? Had some good scores there.

Retroworld is okay. Cheap PS1 games is a plus but I wish the staff were a bit more friendly. The woman who works there is miserable.

it is my favorite, though 1 has better levels, I think
2 is a better adventure
3 looks neat and brought a few improvements, but the rest of the game was worse

We can all agreed this is worst TR?
>horrible level design
>bad levels in general
>fucked save system (on PSX)

>> No.4444008

the worst TR is any TR that came after 4, so the worst retro TR would be Chronicles while the overall worst TR is probably angel of darkness

I will never understand people who hate AoD. It's a good game with plenty of memorable levels. Just because it's not classic tomb raiding it doesn't mean its shit by default. Give it a chance properly.

>> No.4444114

>>4443980
Yeah, it wasn't fun during certain levels. And limited saves only make experience worse, at least I played pc version without this bullshit.

I never played TR as a child in the 90s. Back then you had to choose carefully what games you spent your shekels on.

I got MGS, Resident Evil, Spyro, Ace combat and Abe series. Never could afford to just gamble on something else, and later when I could, I just forgot about the other iconic ps1 game series.

Didn't get them until last year, actually.

Definitely liked 1 alot more than 2, but can't say I love Tomb Raider really. Probably won't replay them, atleast for many years. Not sure if I'm even gonna try TR3. Probably will tho.

I also played Silent Hill for the first time last year, and that I really loved. Didn't care for SH2 tho, kind of killed the interest in playing the rest.

>> No.4444561

give silent hill 3 a shot, I wasn't impressed by 2 either when I played it after 1 as a kid, but I loved 3
you can drop the series then

>dogs, leopards, yetis, etc. standing in for the wolves, lions, gorillas, etc. from the first game
>blowing fuckers up with the nade launcher, or putting them down with the M16
>gunfitted snowmobiles
>dat room of pillars in Dragon's Lair, full of knife throwing goons, that you somersault around like the lobby sequence in The matrix
>dat perfect epilogue level

So is the remake good? Anniversary? If not does the pc version at least play fine? I have access to a win 98 pc if it doesn't work on modern systems.

>> No.4445303

I think it's good, but there's a lot of people who hate it too.
Not sure if win98 supports it though.

>> No.4445305

>>4445289
It's pretty mediocre, but it runs on modern systems. I doubt it would run on W98 though, remember it's a 2007 game. The hunt-the-pixel nature of some climbing aspects (especially in St. Francis' Folly jesus christ just skip that level, trust me) really drag the game down though.
