god damnit, I need to make an item chart for myself and then go and finish the game. I completed it with all 3 characters, I think, but I never tackled the final dungeon (you have to do 100 floors in the tower of babel, without saving).

It's a fucking chore to figure out what items I need at what time to keep my stamina up. I get those out-of-stamina problems all the time, when you don't eat for a while, and then your attacks drop to 1, and I never did figure out what the fuck you have to do then, I just consume items at random until it goes away.

The item mixing was dope btw, but 99% of the time you get some mediocre weapon, you have to be very specific if you want to get the best ones (which are devastating, if memory serves right).

No you'll still get hungry eventually but it will take a long time. Also that wasn't entirely true some healing items like onions and minotaur grass still restore your hunger. The bottom message at the status screen is your stomach status, ippai means full, 空 means empty, harapeko means starving, you should be able to figure it out.
Herbs do a lot of different things including raise your stats by a couple points, if you identify enough items at the shop he will teach you the identify skill at the cost of mp but you have to level it up first.
Also on a side note if you sell other character's skill books at the shop they will become available at that character's playthrough, so all those rulue boos weren't useless after all.

Questions for Waku Puyo Dungeon:
- when do I get new spells? At level up, I get to buy them, or how?
- How do I level them up? Automatic after use, or do I need to buy levelups too?
- do different characters have different equipment, or does everyone use the exact same rings and charms universally?

>>4440048
>Are there any differences between the original Saturn version of Waku Puyo Dungeon and the PlayStation port (Waku Puyo Dungeon Ketteiban)?

Looking at some charts, it seems the Playstation version has different prices for items, and you can level up more spells. On Saturn, some attack spells are single level, and all support ones are single level too; on PSX it looks like everything can gain levels.

>- when do I get new spells? At level up, I get to buy them, or how?
-Books that are randomly found in the dungeon. Make sure to identify them and their description match your character, sell books that don't belong to your character in the store and they will become available to the next character's playthrough.
-I don't actually know. I have spells that I never used on Level 2.
-Same equipment for everyone.

My biggest criticism for the game is that there's no button to walk diagonally, you have to hold triangle to stop in place, hold diagonal, then quickly release and press triangle again.
And the three characters don't play differently enough to warrant three whole playthroughs.

And my biggest problem is that until you get spells that hit multiple targets, you can get teamed up way too easily if there are multiple enemies. In the boss fight vs Draco (<3), the kodomo dragons kept doing 1/3rd lifebar damage with their flame breath. Plus I had to take a random drink with 4 HP left, HOPING that it will recover my HP.

The scorpion man also killed me too, but I had a tunnel to back into, and he didn't follow, so I could solo everything as they came in. Carbuncle gets in the way of your spells to, which is ridiculous. BTW if you feed him enough curry, he starts lasering enemies.

Also lol, one of the unidentified books was a Rulue spell that I could sell for 2500G. Now I actually have money to identify the rest of my gear.

>the 9th floor of the fire dungeon will always be a shop
There were no shops that I could find. I had to fight the scorpion man (Sasori man?) a bit earlier, halfway through.

>you can skip the draco fight entirely if you're playing as alre and give her a book.

I didn't realize that, since I can't read any of the character texts and only barely the inventory.

There was an optional fight in Draco's arena against a bunch of green puyos, that you could select under the Information. What was up with that?

I did not see that in Fire Mountain. Floor 9 was a normal randomly generated floor. I strive for 100% map completion so I would've seen it if it was there, unless it is hidden behind a Warp, the ones which aren't immediately visible.

How do you level up the identification spell? Identifying 10 or so items was enough to get it.

>> No.4443534

>>4443518
>How do you level up the identification spell?

Huh, seems that simply USING it for a few tries leveled it up. Needed 4-5 attempts to work though. The identification is an extra option under the item list. When you select an item, the choices are Use, Drop, Throw, Identify.

>> No.4443538

>>4443518
Item quality determines MP cost and identification difficulty. I'm pretty sure Identification exp is tied to MP cost, but if your level is too low you may get critical failures which consume double the required MP, etc.
Btw you can also identify magic circles and items on the floor if you're inventory is already full, I know it should be obvious if you're experienced with rogue games but it took me a while to figure that out.

You can also gain a trap scout level if you talk to Kikimora at the tutorial building, but I never actually used it.

>> No.4443552

>>4443538
I used it on an ordinary weed. 4-5MP cost at each try, only 3 on the last try where it worked.

WTF is up with the level rankings? I got -17052 when I went on to the Puyo Dungeon to mess with my items.

>> No.4443558

>Btw you can also identify magic circles and items on the floor

I think this was evident by the fact that they have ?s on them as well.

I only found HP and MP refillers so far, and one circle that identified all my items. Handy, that. But I only got it once.

One thing, do you get to auto identify every item, or do you have to check them EVERY SINGLE TIME you get something?

>> No.4443567

>>4443552
>rankings
Ah yeah, when you get 10,000 ranking points combined kikimora will teach you the trap identification thing. I don't understand how ranking works either.

>> No.4443579

Oh haha, I used the ID spell to check an amulet (this took a LOT of MP, had to use refills - something like 10 tries, each at 10-13 MP), then a book (also took 2-3 tries but used less MP), and the spell is already level 9. Nice.

Got a healing spell book (awesome!), and a cursed ordinary amulet. Looks pretty useless. But, apparently, if you can get the ordinary ring and amulet to Level EX, they might be something special.

>> No.4443581

>>4443558
Items start appearing already identified towards the end of the game. You only really need to identify scrolls, food, herbs and medicine. The other rings, stones and staffs are never particularly worth it unless you hold onto them until you find an mp restore magic circle.

If you want to save an item for later, sell it at the shop.

Puyo 7 on NDS has a fan translation and a really deep tutorial that goes over all the techniques. I don't know if it was triggered by doing a successful combine or from beating the 10th floor of the Puyo Dungeon, but I have it now.

It looks like combining items of equal level will only raise their level by one. For ex:
fire amulet (1) + fire amulet (1) = fire amulet (2)fire amulet (2) + fire amulet (2) = fire amulet (3)

I got one of the ultimate weapons, the Annihilation Ring (滅殺の指輪). It has the highest attack power, but adds no magic power. Physical attacks sometimes do multiple hits.
One of its components was the ring that randomly causes instant kill. I'm not sure it was worth changing, since that one could still kill regardless of anything, this one just does huge physical damage, which Arle doesn't need.

One thing is that I can buy Magic Compacts in the store, duplicate the item, and sell it for 50000G (Magic Compact is 5000G). That just about solves any money problems I'll ever have.

For the mean time I also managed to make a Rainbow ring, which I'm using right now. +30 attack and magic, and on physical attacks it may cause an extra random elemental hit (sometimes multiple ones).

I want to make a Goddess Ring or a Demon King Ring, but for those I need light/dark magic rings and I never found any yet.

Only the last 10 floors of the Puyo Dungeon are remaining.

Then a playthrough with Rulue and Schezo.

The purple ones can summon red ones, and they all have a move which debuffs your attack or make you less likely to score a hit. At one point I had two purple bees, one which kept blinding me, the other then summoned a bunch of red ones. I had to use an emergency exit because I simply could not hit them.

The biggest problem with Schezo so far is that he has too low MP, and all his range magics require twice as much MP as Arle. The only upside is that I got his Magic Snatch move, which can drain MP from enemies. Most of them barely have enough MP to make up the moves power cost, but the purple bees, turtles, and medusas can add 25-38 MP.

I'm completely out of supplies and using that move plus healing magic and circles to keep my power up. The Annihilation Ring dispatches enemies very quickly, luckily. I'll probably have problem when I reach the boss.

Medusas also drop apples, very welcome at this point.

Nevermind, the sword of darkness magic does damage based on physical power to a line of enemies... It one hit kills pretty much any normal enemy, and Owlbear went down in two hits. Looks like I made Schezo overpowered and there are still 2 dungeons left.

Fights in this game are pretty easy. You just need to work out which elemental spell does the most damage to your opponent (pay attention to the dialogue box) and use that spell until they die. If they skip a turn, it usually means they're gonna hit you really hard on their next turn so you need to cast BAYOEN on them to prevent that from happening.
If you're having trouble early on, you should probably stick around the entrance when in the Forest of Light and grind for exp. and cookies to buy some health/magic refills from the shop as the Green Puyos there can kick your ass if you're not careful (Cait Sith on the other hand is incredibly weak and goes down easily with one cast of FIRE).
Also, once Arle gets strong enough, you can skip fights against weaker enemies by holding down the L or R button when the Puyos fall on you and the screen goes black. You'll still receive the exp. and cookies too.

I got the third ultimate weapon, 感動の指輪. Not sure what that translates to, Excitement Ring?

It has +40 attack and magic, and on hit it has a random chance of following up with a 2nd hit, casting paralysis, turning the enemy to an item, or turning them into money.

By comparison, the Annihilation ring has +75 attack but 0 magic and only follows up with more hits (sometimes multiple ones). The "excitement" ring has an advantage against enemies with impossible defense, like the rock/metal Puyos and maybe Fufufu. I wonder if I manage to turn Fufufu into money, would he still drop 4000G or some other amount.

Transformations work with 100% accuracy on Rock Puyos, by the way.

I know how to use a dictionary, it's just, there doesn't seem to be an equivalent English expression:
感動 【かんどう】 (n,vs) being deeply moved emotionally, excitement, impression, deep emotion, (P)

"feelings" ring?

>> No.4451640

>>4451593
Oh, yeah, I don't think my Japanese is good enough to say exactly what that means either. I've typically seen that word translated as "emotionally moved", but "ring of being emotionally moved" doesn't sound very good. I guess either "emotion ring" or "excitement ring" or something similar would be fine.

I wasn't trying to be flippant by point you to jisho or anything, I just honestly wasn't sure how much you knew lol.

>I just honestly wasn't sure how much you knew lol.

Well I was posting most of the other item names in English and I'm on my 2nd playthrough and unlocked half the ultimate gear through combinations. So I'm good enough to use a strategy guide, and by extension, using a dictionary.

>> No.4451697

It seems that when you transform enemies into money (either with a weapon or by throwing a money transform charm at them), they turn into 2x their usual drop amount.

If that holds up with Fufufu, then you can possible get 8000G from him, which is quite a nice amount.

Also, lifting the curse from ultimate weapons can cost a ridiculous amount of money in Momomo's shop, for the Excitement Ring he wanted 50000 gold. So it is cheaper to buy a curse lifting scroll and using that inside a dungeon.
