I'll never understand Americans who think the the NES looks better.

Even the cartridges alone are way more aesthetically interesting than the grey NES ones. The Famicom's just so iconic in its design and colouring.

t. PALfag who only had a Master System anyway.

Just received the cart on the left today.
They're pretty both pretty cool cheat devices. Left is from 2005 and runs through a CPLD and right is from 2003 and runs through an fpga.
Thanks to the time they were released in, they have flash memory which allows saving cheats.
Left one also has a SRAM backup feature, a downclock feature and is the only device for the NES/Famicom to use RAM-modifying cheats (in addition to ROM modifying cheats)
Pretty crazy to think that the famicom was still popular enough in 2005 in Japan for a company to actually still produce something for the console.

Yeah, the livespan of the console itself in japan is just as crazy.
Here's an interesting page about the cart on the right: http://www.chrismcovell.com/fcrocky.html
The thing pretty much does the same thing as the game genie but it encodes them differently.
Funnily enough, the xterminator classing copies the format made by the creators of the Pro Action Rocky (Discreetly calling it 'P'-codes in the manual)
and for RAM cheats it uses the format made by the creator of VirtuaNES a japanese NES/Famicom emulator.
It's when you first get your hands on these and then try to get through the japanese menus.

Best I could afford was getting a PPU from one of them.

Well, I got the chip for a moderately good price so I kinda had to get it.
As I said, the RGB PPU and the AV Fami's original PPU are completely mint (nothing soldered directly to them whatsoever) so you could in theory put everything back to how it was. I also put the heatsink back onto the chip (plus some copper tape to get rid of jailbars).
There's also copper tape around the RGB output wires. That's why there's tape around it.

>>4433232
It really depends on who does the mod.
Obviously the NESRGB will need some additional wiring and the PCB is bigger but it can look quite nice as well.
If you want to see a clean mod I'd have to say the HiDef kit is probably the nicest looking one around. Pretty much just two flat flex cables and two wires (for power and ground).
Anyways, here's the finished product. Since the shell of that AV Fami was really mint condition I didn't really want to do anything to it so I simply went with an LED at the front vent holes.

>> No.4433495

>>4433465
Neat, I usually hate LED mods, but I find this one pretty nice; I think it would be perfect if it wasn't bleeding through the upper case. Nice Gimmick! too. I need to take pics of all my Famicom gear for future /vr/ threads.

Asked someone if they could get famicom expansion audio out of my NES & Got this response. How should I proceed?

>So the expansion audio is not as straight forward as I would like. The easiest way is to just plug in an Enio adapter into the NES expansion port and you're done. An alternative to the Enio adapter is to solder a resistor between pins 3 and 9 on the NES expansion port. Unfortunately neither of these will not work if you're pulling audio from the NESRGB board. With the NESRGB board you have the option of tapping the NES's audio and having it go through the NESRGB's audio mixer which most people say sounds better. I think you can still get expansion audio from your NES by not having the audio go through the NESRGB's mixer and instead just using the NES's audio jack (along with the expansion connector resistor mod of course). The mods also seem to vary depending on what type of cart you'll be using; an Everdrive or famicom to NES adapter. If you're using a famicom to NES adapter then the adapter needs to be modded with resistors as well. The other problem with this is supposedly this expansion audio mod will work for games that have expansion audio but for games that do not have expansion audio there will be a constant buzzing noise.
