What a magnificent game. I'm glad they took the time to really flesh out all the characters. 10/10

I know, right? What a magnificent game. I'm glad they took the time to really make it sound awesome, look awesome, and play awesome. As if characters actually mean anything.

Except the bartender chick's hips HOT DAMN.

Pokemon did it better.

Cross is pretty awesome in it's own right. The backgrounds and soundtrack alone are worth playing. Kinda wish the game would push your shit in a little more due to anti-grinding (outside of a certain boss), but considering the series it'd be weird if they did.

IIRC there were so many that Pip was actually a joke related to how many characters were in.

I played Trigger first.
And I still love Cross. It's not perfect, but that's to be expected with such a complicated theme crossing translation.
I play games for their feeling. The world, the gameplay. Bullshit storylines can easily be forgiven. FFS I like Final Fight.

2000 was a Godly year for Square. The BEST year, and behind FFIX, CC is a wonderful piece of software that a JRPG fan cannot hate unless he takes shit too seriously.

I got to the Taurusoid in For Dragonia and gave up. Was just sick of it by then.

Cross is fuckin GOAT. it was the 2nd RPG I played in my adult life after Trigger and was the game that baptized me into rpg fandom

>that soundtrack
>those pre-rendered backgrounds
>that ambitious story that shits on trigger's

the only RPG I'd place in front of it is xenogears, so I guess it isn't goat, but it's still one of the best

Xenogears doesn't have the better graphics though, neither the better soundtrack.

In all the few JRPGs I played, Cross is easily the best, bigger than the sum of its parts. No JRPGs are perfect, but Cross is the closest one

For you

>> No.4401635

when i was in 7th grade, we were supposed to bring a CD in music class at school to play our favorite song and talk about it a little. i brought the chrono cross intro theme. people laughed and i don't think i've ever been as bright red as back then.

still a cool theme tho

Suikoden, as made by people who don't understand what made Suikoden good.

It's OK, Anon; they were all shitheads anyway. You be you and they can all go to hell.

I don't think it's a bad game but the mechanics aren't there, as an RPG it's only barely even qualifies. Music and visuals are still pretty though and it's just a nice game to play.

They never fleshed out the cute girls in Suikoden 1 or 2. S3 at least had a pretty good mango to fill in the gaps. Also not enough hdoujins of Millie.

But they didn't, most of the characters are boring and add nothing to the story. I'd rather have 3 or 4 characters being important story-wise than multitude of characters that do nothing.

>> No.4404272

Slash characters by half, maybe less. Create an area somewhat similar to CT's 'End of Time'; a place where all your characters hang out when they're not in the active party. However, there's one big difference. Flesh out the characters that remain by giving them sidequests in this place relating to their profession; musician, chef, beast tamer, smithy, etc. Now the player actually *wants* to recruit characters for reasons other than MUH COMPLETIONISM because there's more difference between them than 'lol accent dialogue' and 'lol this one has marginally different stats and a different spell, which won't matter because our magic system is half-baked as fuck and often is not worth the effort because enemies just piss all over you attempts to shift the field effect'.

I just made Chrono Cross better. You're welcome.

Oh yeah, and do something about that magic system. Neat idea, bad execution.

>that ambitious story that shits on trigger's

complicated story told well > simple story told well (Chrono Trigger) > simple story told poorly = complicated story told poorly (Chrono Cross)

i like CC and i agree with both of these posts. it could have been a better game. still comfy 7/10 along with FF7, xenogears (barely), and FF8.

I like all the characters and being able to choose who to take with me. I'm not playing rpgs for massive character development anyways. I wouldn't mind the game done the way you describe, but I wouln't necessarily like it better.
