Modern day RPG in its time is what made it popular.

Was also quirky and weird enough to draw attention.

Better than nothing? A lot of jrpgs are based around heavily managing your MP/PP. Even in Chrono Trigger, which is easy as fuck, 90% of the stores won't even sell Ethers and you're only down to the ones you find.

1 PP might as well be nothing when you consider that your cheapest PSI spell is 5 PP and you can only carry 10 items.

Yeah, it IS pretentious as hell.

>>4403352
I still don't see what's supposed to be pretentious. As a whole the game definitely isn't afraid to be goofy, and it relies far less on contrived melodrama than a lot of its contemporaries.

You will only have storage problems till you get Paula. Use your items afterwards, dont save them
I agree with the phone, is chore to store items
also agree about the store
Butterflies always spam on critical points in the map, stop crying
theres a shitload of items you can get to make money like eggs or mushrooms
also is retarded your complain about animations

3/10 put more effort next time

>> No.4403389

>>4403360
It isn't goofy at all.
It makes all kind of bad contemporary jokes instead of giving context for the first third of the game so they don't even put any effort on plot besides of the prologue and they only start spending time making a real story until about the time when Jeff is introduced.
Clearly most of the people remember the game as "quirky and funny" but after this point tha game shifts gears and becomes a bit more like Mother which is good but still flawed in the middle of SNES era.

In the end as not every people who played the game even finished it (mostly hipsters and tumblr-kind) and the part they played is the one with more fame and the one talked the most: i.e. the quirky and silly part, yet they know for sure from other more gameplay related reviews that the game is in fact more dark than they initially tought so they think it's somethink close to a narrative miracle since they managed to fit two very different tones into a single game when in reality they did but in a abrupt and kinda awkward way.
