Do you ever feel weird about collecting old games? The stuff you own was probably someone's childhood.

I don’t care. People also have this feeling for old saves too for some reason? I delete them instantly without a care in the world

>Do you ever feel weird about collecting old games?
Not weird, but maybe kind of of foolish, or weak of personality for enjoying things that aren't cool american cars or beating my wife.
>The stuff you own was probably someone's childhood.
That shit is such a big part of why I love using original hardware and used games. There's a sense of personal history that I appreciate in little markings and stickers and such. I have an old game manual where, judging from the different handwriting, two siblings marked down their high scores in the back. It's cute.

Post pics plz. That does sound really cute.

Nah it's cool. When I buy an old game that has a save file on it, I like to kind go through it and see what they were up to.

Old Pokemon cartridges can be particularly hilarious when you look through their nicknames.

I usually delete them, because I obviously bought the game so that I can enjoy it, but it's pretty fun to check it out sometimes.

I've been trying to find it. Now I'm worried I mighta lost it when moving. Will report back if I see it, though

It's fun to think about the people who played it before. It's like an indirect connection.

>> No.4402215

>someone's childhood
Yeah, my own, most of my collections is from back in the day.
However, I bought some japanese games, many years ago, and they had saves. I only deleted one to use myself and left the other ones. Games are Mother and Dragon Quest III for Famicom.

>> No.4402218

it's too farfetched to think about that

I sure hope in case I die all of a sudden my stuff will be sold, or given to my friends.
What really scares me is if all the stuff I've amassed over the years will one day just end up in a trash compactor.

My old games are all still here with me.
I was such an autist I even kept all the boxes.

Careful, you are pointing us towards a dangerous conclusion which is "what if our collections and what we're doing is pointless?".

Ultimately all of our existence will be wiped from the pages. Life is just a game you can't stop playing, and in the end the high scores get wiped. That's why you should do what you want and not worry about the overall meaning of it.

There's a post on reddit by someone who's brother died. Turns out that OPs brother was a big time skyrim player. So whenever the OP missed his brother he would load up his brothers old saves and wander around the game world then turn off the console without saving.

>> No.4404553

I wouldn't know since all of the old games I buy are brand new and factory sealed.

>> No.4405129

This thread is making me worry about losing my collection. Any way to have the games accessible but stored in a safe place from fires and floods that isn't some autistic 3,000$ gun case?

>>4401935
I try not to think about that. I sometimes feel weird when I pick up a bunch of PS2 games at a thrift store and you can kinda tell some unaware mom threw them here because it's a bunch of kino tier shit. Feels pretty bad knowing some kid lost a mint copy of Metal Gear Solid 3, SMT Nocturne due to ignorance.

The Sega Rally I picked up had the receipt from when it was bought brand new in '95 stuffed in the instruction booklet. It was purchased for $50 along with a gallon of milk from a local store. Always thought that was neat.

They are getting rid of it for a reason either because they don't have the space for it, the income to maintain it, or have become tired of it. Since this is the case it would be better for someone who will appreciate it to take possession of it. The alternative is that they just chuck it in the trash.

fuck man, or that story about a dad dying and his son racing his ghost in mario kart after he died? His dad was so much better than him and he finally got gud enough to be beat him but slowed down at the last second- I think is how it went
