This is really a big problem with modern square. They go for bland realism and their worlds are just so lifeless and boring. Midgar that we've seen in the remake so far is mostly dark colors, and some Euro style architecture. Yawn.

that thing does very little damage compared to those wormy slasher things; for this reason, it was for the most part very welcome to encounter when your party has taken a beating (although it rewards less XP, thus hurting the grinding). another reason (to please player sensibilities) it exists is that it is also more welcome to perform the single limit breaks on it (rather than like when encountering 4 of those wormy things at once). its cons include being relatively hardy and conventionally remaining resistant to all offensive magic in general (so that magic attacks deal nominal damage to it).

meh, II was rather melancholy for me (thanks to uematsu for the most part). It also lasted me about 20-ish hours to complete so it didn't overstay its welcome, which helped
just a regular run of the original FFXII took me more than 50 excruciating hours
also whoever decided the game needed all those desert areas needs to be shot, the game needed LESS brown not more of it (and I say this as someone who loves Vagrant Story)

I know you're heart's in the right place anon, but even I have to say you're bringing up the wrong points. Cars, regular (albeit stylized) humans and other modern tech have been present all around the world as seen in the many spinoffs and even the mainline entries as well. The issue I've brought up up in my argument against the game is how the city and its inhabitants LOOK in contrast to the otherwise cartoonishly stylized characters in most of the other worlds.

I love FF7's graphics. The background are all iconic and detailed, the 3d graphics are colorful and the designs are trippy. This was basically Square at the top of their game. 4 SNES classics (and some great but lesser titles) in a row, culminating in this.

Yeah, and I agree that was pretty jarring (and creepy) as fuck, however even the "realistic" npcs neither moved nor acted like real humans either, which added to the already heavily discrepant vibe of it all.
The painful irony of it all however is that Sega realized this fuck-up by the time Unleashed was in development and decided to hire cartoonists that designed npcs that were a lot more consistent with the equally cartoony style the series is known for. Sega, of all companies realized a mistake they've made, while Nintendo with their latest game didn't, and so far hasn't as of yet...wow.
