Was in goodwill, only one had a/v input with just mono sound.

Had a cool emerson receiver monitor, but the front glass had too much smudge.

I'm 50/50 on getting one, if I did it would def be for 64, genesis maybe and ps2 and VCR. I live in an apt, so the crt would be for the bedroom. Or I could just get a small hdtv lol (I have a 32" hdtv in the living room with a pi connected for my retro gaming)

Nice, but is it bad that the 13 incher would only have RF input? Obv a vcr would be able to hook up a/v inputs to it.

Sony made 13" sets well into the 2000's with component even. There is zero reason to accept an RF only set.

I have one of these. i feel like the picture is expanded slightly off screen. Still works but I can't think of any way to correct that.

that's overscan. go into the service menu with the remote and adjust h-size and v-size.

There should be adjustment pots on the board for vertical and horizontal position and hold, you'll have to pop the back off to find them.

That's a regional issue. You'll have to take it back to Japan and get the TV newly radiated

good memes, guys. shouldn't you be insisting only hdtv's have component in another thread or something?

>> No.4394595

Where the shit can I even find old CRTs. Craigslist is all flatscreens now and goodwill, my state's youth range and DI started throwing them out. I managed to pick up a small one for like 20 bucks but it's AV only.

goodwill is a great spot

found a 14 inch with composite/s-video/component. beautiful picture but terrible sound. carried it all the way home super sweaty and shit. played sonic on it all day, so worth it

I may need to go to ones out of my town then. Any of you guys in the Olympia area of Washington know of any good thrift stores?

I also have one of these (and its RCA equivalent) it's a pretty great TV. The increased weight and worse geometry of "flat screen" CRTs are both pretty minimal on 14s. My biggest complaint and both the Sony and the RCA have this in common: No S-Video.

>> No.4394632

The Goodwills in my area have all stopped taking CRTs too.
I found one TV on Craigslist with S-Video, but it was taken by the time I answered the ad. Shit sucked.

How can geometry be worse on small flatscreen CRTVs versus large flatscreen CRTVs when they both have the same deflection angle (115)?

>> No.4394737

>>4394729
It's better on smaller ones, presumably because the glass can be thinner I guess.

yeah that sucks.

so I adjusted VPOS and all that, but the screen image still seems to bend in the middle into a slight hourglass. Do you know what setting is used to straighten that out?

ok nevermind I think I got it good. Tested it with a PS3 in 480P mode and a Sega Master system in composite. Seems to be decent now. Got rid of most of the bow shaped edge.

Good luck finding one in the wild tho. The only ones I have found with component in the wild were 19" and up.

You're better off nigger rigging a smaller set to have RGB.

For the real retro experience you have to play the old systems on RF.

You can get a cable box or an AV to RF box for a few bucks, if you don't want a VCR taking up 3x as much space to just use as a tuner. If you're going to actually watch VHS tapes then they're the best option.

>>4394595
Not sure about in the US, but in the UK the only places to try are local Ebay, Gumtree (like Criaglist), Freecycle (its a bit bland these days) and British heart foundation electrical stores but expect to pay from £15 upwards for one, but at least you know its working

i found a nice lil 5-6" black & white tv the other day for five bux that i figured would be perfect for my Timex Sinclair 1000. then i get it home and plug it in, it runs for twenty seconds and then it fucking explodes. glass everywhere, tablecloth fucked. welp that's my goodwill tv story, thanks for listening
