Does anyone else get an autistic itch over the fact that some retro games are accessible effectively through emulation alone? I prefer to play on real hardware whenever possible, but I can't just go out and blow a ton of money on original arcade cabinets for games like Gauntlet. Sure, there are some home ports of Gauntlet, but they're pretty different from the original release.

No.

Nope. Then again, I never played a whole lot of arcade

>> No.4388112

Yeah but I’m not about to start buying PCBs. Or old PC hardware. Thankfully there aren’t a lot of games I care about on those. I know if I did get them I’d just have a large empty feeling in my wallet and it’s not worth it to me. I keep a small collection of console games and hardware that I actually go play.

It kind of bothers me that it's difficult to emulate arcade games on a CRT.
I wish the Wii emulation scene would never die.

>> No.4388128

>>4388081
No, I just emulate them and play with my USB arcade stick.

>A Gauntlet PCB alone goes for $300 now

Well shit. Oh well, OP - "Gauntlet 4" on Genesis/Mega Drive is a pretty faithful port of arcade Gauntlet 1 with the objectively appreciable addition of a quite good soundtrack.

You don't need an original arcade cabinet to play arcade games without emulation genius

No, but I think emulating is pretty awesome in general. I prefer it over hardware these days.

Why not get a supergun and a gauntlet PCB?

Emulating the classics might be fine if devs put some real effort into correcting these imperfections. Emulated Gauntlet ports don't even randomize the levels.

It's even worse when the game DOESN'T have a home console port, and I hate it. the best I can do is build a mame cabinet, but that's cheating and usually kinda tacky.

>> No.4392271

>>4391427
Also MAME is such a piece of shit that you often have to use older versions to get certain games to run well. You can't just download the latest version and expect that to be the most accurate emulator.

Not really. I mean, that's the entire point of emulation, preservation of games that can't be played otherwise.

We know what a supergun is. You still need to shell absurd cash for pcb's

But you can. If older versions play a game "better" it's because they rely on hacks or otherwise less accurate emulation

Yeap, after spending tons of money on vidya it disappointing to look at it just lying there gathering dust and thinking that the history will repeat itself with each new generation.

bro, here me out on this. you should be happy the devs gave a single fuck. they don't do it for the people who whine and complain. it's a hobby and they're preserving games for history. most of the motherfuckers doing this know WAY more than you do, probably studied their asses off either in school or at home and are reverse-engineering systems that manufacturers stopped caring about 20 years ago. that shit is hard, no matter how hard you spin it

just because we're on 4chan and can say whatever we want doesn't make it any less retarded, and this is coming from an oldfag who's had just about enough of all of you little baby faggots on my favorite board

big hairy deal, that's not the point. we both like video games, we both like Gauntlet, and probably have some respect for the preservation of video games but why make the assumption that emulator devs don't try? yeah I probably flew off the handle but you entitled fucks complain too much

it's not wrong in the slightest for me to point it out

Gauntlet IV for Genesis had a basically perfect port of the original arcade game. Bad example.

No, and I never suggested it was.
Any other non-sequiturs to ask?
