Those black and white ads were all from Viz which is a British parody comic for adults. Sega Europe and Sega America got 2 things right in the early 90’s, the price point and the more edgy marketing for young adults. Sega Japan fucked all that up in the Saturn era and Sony ran with it by launching the PlayStation at a loss making price and picking up the edgy marketing. They took PlayStation and Wipeout into clubs and made themselves cool like Sega were cool
