Ii was close but I believe the Genesis won DURING the 4th gen, but SNES sold more overall due to it still being fairly popular and selling new units even towards the end of the 5th gen.

In Japan Nintendo won outright that gen and SEGA came in third behind NEC by a slim margin.

This is true but being a "cool kid" also meant you weren't as invested in video games and SNES had much better games for kids that were into video games.

Why is it always the idorts who have nothing important to say yet are quick to boast about themselves? Even if you did own every system under the Sun, I find it highly unlikely that you would enjoy them all equally. Surely one system would have more appealing games than another? So why can you not give an opinion as to which system you preferred? Perhaps you're lying about really owning both a Genesis and a SNES and thus cannot share such insight with us. Does it bother you that some people have preferences? Do you think all sports teams are equal? All car manufacturers are equal? All political parties are equal? Then why should the same belief be applied to videogame consoles? Either put more constructive thought into your position or don't bother responding.

We did. Because two rival consoles going head-to-head only means more games for us.

Shame the rivalry couldn't last. Now we have an OS company vs. an electronics company dominating consoles, neither of which understands what makes videogames good.

From 90-93, Sega. Nintendo caught up in 94. Sega then pissed off all consumers with their endless upgrades, so people migrated to the Playstation while Sega was trying to push the Saturn and ignored the Genesis; and those who didn't upgrade still got a lot of good SNES games for 2-3 more years.

It's the same shit as the X360 vs PS3, PS3 sold more units not because it was better, but because Microsoft sabotaged itself by trying to push Kinect shit.

That's why the SNES is notorious for its crippling slow down? Doesn't sound like the console with better games for people that are into video games.

>> No.4387954

>>4387902
tl;dr but you seem upset at other people having and enjoying more than one system as kids.

>> No.4387960

>>4387949
But there's a lot of Mega Drive games with slowdown.
Hell, even arcade boards had slowdown.
Also, SNES has Gundam Wing Endless Duel, right? That game was great and 0 slowdown.
People who actually liked video games owned both consoles.
You didn't need to own a Neo Geo in order to experience arcade, you could go to the arcade. Having a Neo Geo was a luxury.
But MD and SNES? It was mandatory if you lived through the 90s. Or at least had one of them and a close friend with the other one so you could swap consoles during weekends.

No. You just suck.

Well, one company is still making consoles and the other isn't, largely due to decisions made during that gen. So I guess that answers that question.

>> No.4388024

>>4387960
Tons of Mega Drive games have slowdown. I have a feeling that the reason so many SNES games have crippling slowdown is the same reason many Saturn games do: lazy programmers. In both cases there is no reason why it should be so.

>>4387860
Neo-Geo didn't "flop". It was a premium product for big spenders, and lasted for a very long time. That'd be like saying PC games "flopped" because they didn't sell as much as the biggest console titles. They are all niche market products that did just fine.

It was more-or-less a tie, which is why it's still being talked about. Call me a contrarian but personally speaking I like the Genesis more because games feel much more snappy and fluid.
>>4387895
The PCE was quite popular in Japan because it had year head start over everybody else and the TurboDuo equivalent was relatively inexpensie for a CD console meaning leviathan amounts of storage for RPGs.
