Which one had better 3D platformers?
2.5D games like Klonoa and Kirby 64 don't count.

My vote goes to PS1 only because of Ape Escape and Spyro.

>> No.4382667

N64 has Mario 64, so it automatically wins. Crash shouldn't count on the Playstation, either.

I found Croc and Crash 3 more fun than any N64 platformer but honestly Conker's Bad Fur Day holds the biggest spot in my heart imaginable and is a highly important game to me

Even though Crash does have plenty of side-scrolling sections, I still feel it should count, as at least half of each game is played in 3rd person.

N64 was practically built to run 3D platformers

Also I'm still mad that Sony wanted to push the 3D technology on PS1 so hard when 2D games were just getting good.

I see where you're coming from, but it 's the same kind of deal as Kirby 64 and Klonoa in my opinion. While you're often playing from behind in Crash, you can't really explore, you're just platforming down a path; while not exactly like a "2.5D" game, the end result is similar.

Pac-Man World is the best ps1 3D platformer followed by Ape Escape.

Bomberman Hero is also a decent platformer for the n64, Same for Duck Dodgers 64 and Space Station Sillicon Valley.
Tonic Trouble is alright for what it is, should add it to multiplatform, but i think the pc version can't be played on modern systems, so there's the n64 version which is okay.
Shadow Man should also be added to multiplatform, but I should say the ps1 version of the game should be avoided.

At this point I don't know if you're a false-flagging PS1 fan or what, but no, I like both systems, but don't have a huge preference for either, 5th gen is not my favorite gen.
Also, what "bandwagon" would I jump? CV64 does have platforming levels. Some other levels are more exploration-based, but there are others that are 100% linear platforming level, where most of the challenge comes from not falling off than anything else. That's platforming to me.
I don't remember any instances on MM Legends 1 or 2 when you die by falling off a cliff. The game doesn't even let you fall and die to the abyss, there's an invisible barrier on ledges.

People often talk as if 5th gen was loaded with platformers, but it doesn't even come close to what the platforming genre was during 3rd and 4th gen.
5th gen had way more fighters and racing. And in the case of the western market, the RPG craze took over finally, it had in Japan since the 80s.

For me I think the N64 easily wins with Mario 64, BK/BT, CBFD, DK64 etc., while with playstation you have Spyro and Ape Escape that are good. Crash Bandicoot is a completely different type of game.
