OSSC can now remove the low pass filter effect seen on pre-1chip SNES models, which I think is pretty fucking cool.

I have a non-1chip, except it's PAL. If I SuperCIC mod it, will I see stutter on all HDTV's due to the 'imperfect' 60Hz it supposedly gives?

I'm sorry, but the difference is so fucking slight that you'd have to literally be an ocd addled, autistic, talking point spouting, "muh perfection" cunt to even care.

One is very slightly sharper than the other.

Old games are slightly blurry, the world isn't perfect, you're wasting time and money on nothing, get over it and just play games for fuck sake...

>>4381127
The hell is with all that aliasing? I hope that's not a byproduct of the reverse LPF. Also, looks like it's set to optimized sampling mode in those pictures; I'd like to see what the effect looks like in the generic sampling modes. Or does it even work in the generic sampling modes?

Anyway, it's interesting and probably useful to some people, but still no replacement for a 1CHIP if you really care about video quality.

It's just a video amp that happens to be popular for RGB mods. The stock SNES amp is perfectly fine though; in terms of picture quality there's no real difference between it and the 7374. People only bypass it to make soldering easier.

Unfortunately the non-1CHIP's problem is internal to the PPU, so replacing the video amp does nothing to fix it.

Serious question:

Does the non-1Chip with the lowpass filter removed have the ghosting that is found in 1-Chip models?

>> No.4381787

>>4381778
Most likely worse. You can even see some ghosting in the OP's picture. Look to Mario's right, for example.

Also, the 1CHIP ghosting can be fixed if you haven't heard:

>stutter

THIS ONLY APPLIES IF YOU HAVE A SHIT HDTV

The stutter OSSC claims exists is due to a 60Hz signal being displayed on a HDTV that only supports 50Hz, resulting in dropped frames hence stutter.

It isn't anything to do with SuperCIC mod in particular. If you were to import a stock NTSC SNES or any other device that outputs 60Hz you'd have the exact same problem. Any HDTV that supports 60Hz won't have this problem. Samsung has the worst reputation by far for this, but it's can be pure luck if your TV is locked.

OSSC has confused people before with this because of their terrible wording and lack of details.

Irrelevant

>> No.4385469

>>4384929
OSSC isn't a person. It's a piece of equipment. It doesn't claim anything.

Also, the stutter isn't due to TVs only supporting 50Hz - all HDTVs support 60Hz because it's part of the spec. The problem is that the SNES (whether an NTSC model or a modded PAL one) doesn't output 60Hz exactly, which can cause stuttering (or lack of a picture entirely) on certain picky TVs. That said, I haven't seen any evidence that a SuperCIC-modded PAL console is any worse off than an NTSC console in that regard.

>> No.4385779

>>4384929
>>4385469
My understanding is that there is a slight difference in frequency between the 60Hz of an NTSC SNES/SFC and the 60Hz of a modded non-1chip SNES.
i.e. the modded non-1chip SNES is slightly further out of spec.
Being slightly further out of spec, apparently this can cause stutter on SOME hdtv's.
In practice however I do not know if this is actually noticeable; but if I'm going to spend money getting my PAL SNES modded, I want it to be as perfect as possible.
