Windows 98 is pretty much Windows 95 with a lot more features and support. There is little reason to prefer 95 overall.

In nvidia control panel under "adjust desktop size and position" you'll find an underscan/overscan option that should fix that.

On the subject of retro PC gaming, I have a question. My boss is trying to get rid of a bunch of big Trinitron CRTs, maybe 20-22" models. I know retro consoles look good on CRT tv sets but is there any value left in the monitors? Obviously he won't recover his investment but it's still better to get a few bucks back and see them being used than to have to pay to recycle them.

>> No.438225

Probably. I have noticed a lot more people planning on buying CRTs recently. Hell I plan on going to my Goodwill eventually and getting one.

I have a few retro rigs.
Pictured is an old DOS machine, not sure on the specs as I haven't bought a PS/2 to 5-pin DIN keyboard adapter yet, also the printed label of "Cirrus Computers" I can find nothing about nowadays.

I play dos games on my first computer that my parents got for me for Christmas when I was 14.

Packard Bell 486DX2 333mhz. Came with 4mb ram which I upgraded to 8 and a 512mb HD.

It's funny because there seems to be a hate bandwagon for Packard Bell yet mine is 18 years old now and runs Ike a top. Even the monitor. Only things I've replaced were the keyboard and mouse.

The only redeemable thing about that giant fucking mess, also known as Windows 95.

>> No.440405

>>439876

Windows 95 gets a bad rap because the OEM system releases were never sold at retail.

OSR 2.1 is the best version, far better than retail. It has half-assed USB support, and it doesn't have the IE style Windows Explorer. Aside from that, it has everything Windows 98 has, including FAT32 support. It was released one year prior to 98, and is slightly more compatible with DOS stuff. That's why I run it on my retro box.
