The AI has no idea how they work. Guest pathfinding is part random-walk, part shortest distance ("as the crow flies"). What do you guys think of a "roller coaster tycoon 2-extend" which wold be 2 with a lot of improvements and changes, so its much better than 2 or even 3?

I'm not making it or anything but I'm interested in what you guys would like to see changed i a new roller coaster tycoon. I said 2-extend because I don't like 3 at all and calling it 4 implies we accepted 3's existance.

I think it would be cool if guests has a way of recognizing ride variety and complexity of the buildable non-thrill rides (golf courses, mazes, etc). So if you just make a tiny loop they'll say "I'm not going on race karts 1, its just a little track!"

Nope, park value is based on the value of the rides, which depreciates over time as they get older.

Yeah, I can understand. It sounds like a flimsy response, but aesthetics are a big part of that "gut feeling" that motivates purchasing (and I'm not usually a "gut feeling" sort of guy). If it was the first game in the series, it'd be justifiable, but to actually downgrade the graphics for the sake of a sequel blows my mind. It looks like they were trying to cash-in on the franchise. Not to mention that one of the continued joys of playing RCT is just panning around the park and enjoying the view. Eh. I thought it was kind of fun.

I guess it really depends what you're out for. Scenarios? Definitely play RCT.

But I've had a crapload of fun designing parks and rides with RCT3. Long woodies (Voyage inspired) that hug the ground, dive into tight tunnels and through dense trees. Internal rides with lots of internal scenery, which you can actually see once the building is closed.

And seriously, the ghost-trains while you're building are nothing short of fantastic. I wish someone could mod that into RCT2.

A few thoughts:

Adding scenery is the most obvious one. Just plaster the area in trees if you're feeling uninspired.

Gigas are about big drops, and air time. 3.5 seconds is quite little.

I think having too many block brakes reduces excitement. Plus, you've got one on almost every hill, which might be why you have so little air time.

Start with small, simple things. Junior coasters, wild mice, virginia reels. Look at how the pre-made layouts are designed, build them and watch them go round, and learn from that. Then start building fancier coasters, but still try to keep the height low.

Why limit it, is what I'm saying.

We've all shown that we can be gentlemenly here, none of us are going to demolish somebody elses building or section just to add their own thing and if they did, we'd just revert to a previous save.

Besides, different people have different ideas. One person might want to only make a lake, boat ride and simple rest area using up only 10x10 squares. Another may wish to make a huge duelling gigacoaster set that is 100x20 tiles long / wide.

Basically, just have a single large open park, enough custom scenery options to please everyone, and let them add what they want to the park when their turn comes and you can sign up for a turn as often or as little as you like, as long as your previous turn is already complete.

>> No.429000

So I was watching the Autism fest above when at about 10:40 in this guy has an interesting trick to get duel coasters to sync without having to have the stations adjacent to each other. He built he few stations for unbuilt coaster between the two stations he wanted to sync up and synced all of them- even the dummy stations and that made it work. (see vid at 10:40 or pic)

Thought that might be a useful trick for all of you making dueling coasters.

That first downward spiral, for a start. Thing about how fast they'll be going as they get towards the bottom, and how tight the turns they're going around are.

And then you have big drops into turns all over the place. Again, that's the kind of thing that kills people.

Virginia Reels have no banked turns, meaning that the riders experience high lateral G's at the turns. You want to go through all turns "slowly", which I think of as being < 30 mph though I've yet to actually test that. Pic related is a more tolerable Virginia Reel. You can use friction, upwards track, or brakes to reduce speed.

Unfortunately I don't think there's anything salvageable of your design, it's essentially wrong in every way. Build the built-in rides and study their designs, then start over. I recommend using a single lift hill, both for simplicity's sake and to improve the ride (allegedly, additional lift hills penalize excitement).

That's not bad.

Your lateral Gs are being driven up by the upwards/downwards turns on hills, especially the tight ones (e.g. on the way up after the first drop) and the direction changes mid-drop (e.g. below the lift hill).

Some coasters allow you to bank those, but junior coasters unfortunately do not. Unless the train is really slow (top of a hill or towards the end of the coaster), I would use large turns or, if it's really fast, avoid them completely.

then build a rollercoaster. try copying prebuild coasters if you want to improve your coaster building skills. set the price as high as your guest are willing to pay. lower the price as time passes by.
shuttle loop with on-ride-photos and go-carts are easy mode moneyprinting.
always employ enough workers for your park!
add basic scenery like trees, benches, trash bins, lanterns.
build a few food stalls and bathrooms.

Put benches, all around that exit. Most guests get better if they sit to never vomit. Put a restroom in the place of that first aid room and move the aid room like 5 squares to any direction. Check if you have food or drink stalls too close to the ride, and put them a bit farther. Also, this happends, so hire more handymen and place one at that specific spot if you have to. Avoid ramps in the paths near extreme rides.

Is it 30mph. Anything that's travelling at 30mph or more will crash when it hits another car. Except rubber dinghies.

Alright, done. The landscaping probably could have been a bit less square, but whatever.
Also I really should have checked as to whether or not there was actually mine theming before deciding to build a minecart coaster, but I think I managed alright without that.

Has anyone ever caught one of these fuckers actually breaking a bench?

I don't think there's a physical animation for it, they just break.

I've never played this, but I'm suffering from Tired Gamer Syndrome. I'm ready to embarrass myself on multiplayer!
