Other? Black isn't a colour. But your could use grey, silver or white. You could use any colour, but those are the most likely using stock cases. Why would you think you could only have black?

Yeah technically there are other palette choices for media center pieces but the color black is the easiest to use because it blends in every time.

That white don't last forever. You need to deyellow all the white/grey consoles. Whereas with black, there is no such need to "deyellow" it.

Agreed. The PAL/JP version looks pretty good in black though (forgive the rushed image edit).

Alternatively they could have given another company official license to make their own design completely, as they did with the twin famicom.

Thats true, but as these old consoles become older, rarer, and more expensive, I'd feel guilty not preserving them as they are. Also most of us won't be able to do as good a job as the original manufacturers would have.

I like consoles with multiples color, like the Gameboy Color and other Nintendo consoles. So there is a big variety.
Btw Orange > Black > anything else > White

I don't have any pics, but I swapped the case on my OG Playstation for a transparent blue one. I love it! I wish more consoles came in different shells. If I ever get around to setting up my game room, I will try to track down some more colored transparent shells for my retro systems
