Is it dumb to 100% this game? I just finished world 1 and it seems like a grind to go back and collect all the hidden crap and finish every level with 30 stars.

>> No.4369910

>>4369905
The extra stages aren't anything special, so if you don't find the collecting fun then don't bother.

>> No.4369930

>>4369910

Okay. Why is there so much collecting in SNES games anyway? I also think that the secret exits in SMW are annoying and those damn bonus barrels in DKC, all of which are retardedly difficult to find when you go for 100%.

If you are too bad to 100% world 1, I seriously doubt the extra levels are something for you. They are meant for the skilled players.

anon it sounds like you don't even enjoy video games.

>> No.4370084

>>4370070

I do, I just enjoyed SMB3 more than SMW because you can just play through it without having to replay levels over and over again until you finally find that stupid hidden exit.

Yes. The 16 bit era was the first to invent filler "content" that distracts from simply trying to win at all costs.

Don't bother with any elements of a game that don't truly challenge you or aren't enjoyable on their own.

>> No.4370094

I enjoyed getting 100% in this game. Some of the flowers and red coins are very well hidden.

>> No.4370440

OP, no offense but are you autistic?
It's dumb to force yourself for 100% on your first playthrough.
Play the game without caring about completion, just get to the end of the game. If you like it (you probably don't and this thread is bait but w/e), then you can try 100% completion as a post-game thing.

>> No.4370448

>>4369905
if it's not fun for you don't bother

>> No.4370453

Yeah OP everyone in the 90s either stopped playing the game after the first level or did a 100% run on their first playthrough.

Yoshi's Island was released over a year after the 32bit generation was started, though.

>> No.4370478

>>4370469

That doesn't mean anything.

>> No.4370559

I love this game and I've gotten 100% on every level but not on the same game file. So now I'm trying to complete it all, the only level that I have no desire to finish is the bonus level that's in the sewers (4th world I think). A lot of the levels are just really fun to go back and play, like the skiing levels and the jungle levels.

I'm in my twenties now and don't have a lot of time for games, so if a game isn't fun for me I just drop it and move onto something else or play a game I have already beaten and love to play. Don't waste your time but at least give it a fair shot.

Longevity.

Making games was expensive, and average game could only really last you 3 hours tops.
Which is why all of these old games always had SOMETHING to pad out the game length - either they were extremely hard, or extremely obscure, or they had you collect stuff for 100% completion.

>> No.4370956

Its not really representative of your average 16bit platformer at all.

>> No.4370967

>>4370956

Anon, honestly. It's a game that began and completed most development way before the PSX came out. What you're seeing is just the logical advancement of a trend. What that guy said is correct, fourth gen was when game length began being extended in ways other than difficulty.

Yeah.

Also excluding Sunshine, or that Mario Basketball game for the DS, or all of the Mario Party games, or Mario is MIssing, or Luigi's Mansion, Super Paper Mario, or SMB2, or Mario and Sonic at the Olympics, or etc.

I think it's dumb to 100% most games, OP. Yoshi's Island in particular becomes really tedious when you're constantly backtracking and looking for invisible secrets when you could clear the levels normally in 1/4 the time. Yoshi's Island is best suited for casual play, if you want to play a single player game seriously you'd be better off finding a challenging 1CC or something with a good scoring system.

Right, it has far more in common with the collectathon platformers that littered the N64's library, only without the addition of a third dimension.

Fuck you. Hoops 3-on-3 was fun as hell

Finding the collectible stuff is fun, but fuck those fly-guys that carry red coins. Its especially annoying when you walk forward a bit, get them to spawn barely off-screen and move back to do something else, leaving you looking for a red coin you had no idea was unobtainable without dying.

I just had this happen on one of the jungle levels near the end. I always would forget there was a piranha plant and flutter backwards but didn't realize the shy guy had spawned off screen because I moved forward slightly. Searched that level all over and got really good at it and killed the plant quickly and saw the shy guy floating there

It's a bit of a chore to 100%, only do it if you just want to. I don't believe you even get anything in the snes edition for 100%, but gba gives you a very short cutscene.

Some of the levels have classic "guide dang it" bullshit. Like good luck getting 100% in all the ice worlds without knowing you can in fact go over what appears to be an impassable wall. Actually, a lot of the ice levels are a bitch to 100%, especially the skiing levels- those are all memorization, no skill.

>> No.4373398

>>4369905
I'd recommend just playing through until world 4. I believe that's the one where you unlock the memory game where you can win every item. If want to 100% any part of that game, it's world 4. Once you have that, the rest of the game becomes a cakewalk.
