The R-360 unit was the undisputed king of "holyshitican'tevenaffordtoleasethatthingformyarcade". At it's time, it was a behemoth, it was absurdly expensive, the most technically advanced cab, and it was glorious.

that's an example that IMO did not warrant the cost of a game.

My favorite choice is any light gun game, playing them with mouse-emulating modern guns just doesn't work. It's gotta be the real thing on a CRT.

Emulated gorf looks and plays as good as emulation can get and its fun to play but nothing beats the original cabinet.

It has a voice synthesizer that talks to you while you play.

The voice even tells you your rank and said rank on the right monitor panel lights up.

Look, I can understand enjoying Mortal Kombat, but there isn't anything truly unique about the gameplay that can't be accomplished with a regular controller or fight stick. This thread is about unique arcade game experiences that don't translate to other controllers/platforms as well, not just "arcade version is better than home version"

>> No.4359380

It was something about playing it at a cabinet that just didn't feel the same playing it at home. Maybe it's decades of nostalgia or maybe it's something else.

But something like this is on a completely different level from just an arcade fighting game. Impossible to recreate at home.

Even with the more expensive hard pads people made for consoles, this game was never the same as it was in the arcades.

If you wanted to go hard like the Asian kids, you needed to use the bar.

I played this game and it was pretty fun.
There was an arcade hall in one of the malls in our city that had it. There was about 20 classic cabinets like Time Crisis, DDR etc.

Too bad only 5 or so were popular, so instead of removing the unpopular ones they just closed down altogether.
