Are these games any good?

Also, can we get a platformer thread going? Preferably the less famous ones.

They're alright.

I hate the shit out of the first game, it's full of one-hit instadeath obstacles and if you miss a single one star platform/hoop/key item or whatever you're forced to backtrack through the entire level to find it, and the levels were clearly not designed with backtracking in mind so you have to deal with desyncronized platforms over spike pits and long ass ladder climbs.

Aero 2 was a huge improvement, they "fixed" the exploratory mechanics by giving you an extra life if you collect over 80% of the food items.
Zero the Kamikaze Squirrel is also a great game although it is quite hard, full of vehicular autoscroller segments that kill you in one hit in the vein of the Turbo Tunnel from Battletoads and I hate how the dive test segments are mandatory.

Also the animation in Aero 2 is really good but downside is that the hitboxes can be a little off compared to the first game, as usual in these western platformers with good animation.

I'd say the animation quality is on par with Aladdin/Earthworm Jim/The Mayan Adventure

The spin-off, Zero the Kamikadze Squirrel was one of my all time favorite platformers. It's just such a blast once you master the flying mechanics.

Aero was okay, good production values, challenging.

>cutesy, but high production values with excellent graphics and music
>each level is set to a completely different theme with all new graphics
>gets progressively more challenging with starting levels being comparable to SMB and the last ones being truly harsh
>Genesis version, best version

I didn't like aero the acrobat. But I've always find it really pretty.

The dive mechanic is what diferentiates Zero from other platformers. IIRC the only mandatory dive test was #2 (and I remember having a hard time to figure what to do since the game doesn't explain how to pass). But once I learned how to dive/fly I actually wanted more of those sections.

Playing this right now and this is the best Spider-Man game ever.

God i love this game and its soundtrack

i bought it back in the 90's for dirt cheap, now a copy sells for anywhere from $150-$300
