Were there any 2D games with any crazy 3D effects besides the typical Mode 7 used as in FF or Mario Kart? The effects used in Mickey Mania and Toy Story are pretty kickass and I want to see more.

Actually agree. Mode 7 severely limited the amount of tiles you can load in memory and most used it for shitty inflating bosses, rotating rooms, racing or over world maps in rpgs.

All depends on how you use it. Most Mode 7 I've seen looks really unique and instantly recognizable. A few instances I've seen, on the other hand, looked like absolute dogshit (even in the same game!).

Ranger X had something like a different effect every level. One had half a dozen layers of parallax scrolling, another had lightbeams (that charged up your power!), another had water splashing around as it was disturbed by motion, another one had the light changing as you flew in and out from the forest.
Then there were the bosses.

Dynamite Headdy had crazy multi-part bosses

Contra Hard Corps had some 3d levels.

Vectorman had... just look at the game, easily the most impressive looking Megadrive title. If the title screen alone doesn't take your breath away, you get particle effects, lens flare, lightbeams and shadows, fullscreen rotation, and mode 7, by the time you reach the second level.

Adventures of Batman & Robin has so many visual tricks, it looks like a 32bit game.

Won't happen, 4chan is a normie social media site now. It has been for most of this decade, ever since they introduced archiving, made the bump limits insanely long, and removed sage and self bumping.

I mean, I don't think normies give too much of a crap about the former CEO of TT revealing all sorts of cool tricks used in 90s MD videogames or sharing proper prototype footage, the fact that it comes straight from the horse's mouth only makes it better and that video about the hi-color mode had me on the edge (even though somebody else technically reproduced the same effect years before he showed it). You know, the devs could have made the slowdown less terrible in that part if they ommited all the skeleton bones flying all over the screen when you kill them. Most of the slowdowns happens because of that.
Anyway, i thought these parts were cool. Maybe if it was an entire level like that, then yeah, but I didn't mind them, they were short sections.

No, they don't. On /co/ if you do a storytime, you need others to bump the thread for you. Sage only functions as an invisible downvote, it doesn't make threads die faster as it used to.

>>4346042
8 chan doesn't have any userbase.

The whole thing that made 4chan great was that it was too fast to be aggregated, and that it only remembered good content. It was a collective unconscious, a functional hive mind. Now even crap threads last weeks, and everything is archived indefinitely. The community lost it's ability to forget, so there is bigger pressure on anyone trying to be creative (whatever you post will be archived and can be reused against you).

And if you can't be creative then all that remains is reposting shit from other sites and the nonstop shitposting replies.

Don't be a namefag, I guess? This is exactly the problem with normal forums and social media in general. You'll be "that guy", before long people will start forming opinions on your posts way before actually reading them, so the whole discussion devolves into who's more popular. 4chan is fine, for now that is.

>it doesn't make threads die faster as it used to

Sagebombing was a retarded quirk that only benefit people with huge egos. Sage (as in the Futaba sage) was always intended as a means to let you choose whether your post deserved to bump the thread because it actually added to the discussion or let it be when you just presented a simple opinion with no further argument because you needed to get it out of your chest or something.
That's how I always use it anyway, also when discussing off topic or when I'm really angry at someone and I want to insult them and my rage is so unjustified it borderlines on rule breaking and I feel guilty so I sage as if I know I'm doing a wrong thing like flaming or shitposting but I'm still being polite towards the board, and I think that's what started the aggressive sage meme. The fact you still think of it as an invisible downvote just shows how out of touch you really are.

Maybe the self bump removal is a /co/ thing (I don't post there), because it still works in any other board I tried.

>> No.4346557

>>4346552
Sage comes from the Japanese "sageru" which means "to lower", basically it was anti-bump. You don't like the thread, you voice your opinion, but sage it so it doesn't bump the thread. It was never a positive thing, and was never meant to be.

Well, I can concede that, but it's a dumb thing to do since I actually want to discuss things as an OP or poster, not worry about my thread's appealing to the largest userbase so it doesn't get saged or preemptively killed. But then I get it, you like hiveminds and circlejerks which inevitably spawn idiots who try to fit in and just forgot how to think for themselves like any human being and don't even have a complete grasp on the medium they are discussing (/a/ in a nutshell) but hey they fit in so that's okay, to each his own I guess.

sage never made threads die faster, it made them not bump while increasing the post count
not being bumped makes threads die faster if more threads are being created
these days people have more of a tendency to stay in a thread for longer and make duplicate threads less (which, surprise, has to do with the archive and catalog, and which is not a bad thing because you don't have to have 2-5 threads open to know you'll be in one that doesn't die on the vine)
self-bumping should have an effect but only a limited one
>The community lost it's ability to forget, so there is bigger pressure on anyone trying to be creative
you fucking idiot
one of the good things about 4chan was always the drive to make people be creative
people stopped pointing out reposts as much, so it's good to have more room so people can be more aware of them and avoid them
you also seem to forget all of this was asked for before by the people who were already here 5, 6, 7, 8 years ago
