ded thred, let's play some scenarios. Every time you finish a scenario, post a pic and reply to this to pick your next one. I forget if /vr/ has dubs enabled or not. If it doesn't, you can pick one of the dubs scenarios if you don't like the one you rolled.

If you don't have the RCT1 scenarios, use Crappage's versions in the first link in the op. Download and paste them into your RCT2 Scenarios folder, OpenRCT2 should do the sorting for you.

I tried to follow your advice and put uphills before a lot of the turns, thanks. The double S bend is a series of downslope-small-turns with a loop at the bottom that continues uphill in a similar manner. It's probably what gives it most of its intensity but I like the way it looks and its speed.
Here's my revision. I added a helix at the end but it could easily be removed.

Most of us use OpenRCT2 which runs perfectly fine on anything
https://openrct2.org/downloads

OpenRCT2 is a free open source recreation of the original game engine with many original bugs fixed and some new features added and features from RCT1 reintroduced. It still requires the data files from RCT2 to work though.

To install the RCT1 recreation scenarios in RCT2 you just have to navigate to the RCT2 directory and copy them to the "scenarios" folder.

So far it is all working fine, but just to clarify
>To install the RCT1 recreation scenarios in RCT2 you just have to navigate to the RCT2 directory and copy them to the "scenarios" folder.
So I need to copy content of the "scenarios" folder from RTC1 to the same folder in RTC2 and OpenRTC is going to handle it all from there?

>> No.4386924

>>4386904
That's only if you want to use the RCT1 *recreations* (RCT2 SV6 files). If you want to import RCT1 scenarios (SV4 files) you go into OpenRCT2's options(top right at the main menu) then go to Miscellaneous and at the bottom of that window it will ask you to specify where the RCT1 directory is.

Importing RCT1 scenarios works pretty well it doesn't matter a whole lot which option you use.

any difference in using the original SC4 files instead of the RCT1 Recreations by Crappage?

I've noticed that OpenRCT2 now has the ability to use SC4 scenarios directly from a RCT1 installation (provided you tell it where the directory is)

iirc that option was not there the last time i've played (version 0.6.0)

>> No.4440957

Is there a simple tutorial/guide for building rollercoasters for someone completely new? I played many years ago as a kid and got somewhat far on the original scenarios with the prebuilt coaster desgins but met a wall in later scenarios where it pretty much asked you to make custom rides.

>> No.4441386

>>4440794
If you import the SC4 files with OpenRCT2 it will ignore things that RCT2 does not have (pretty much just land and wall textures). It will function the same but it will not look the same. Crappage's recreations try to recreate the original look of the scenarios.

>> No.4441489

>>4440957
I've not kept any tutorials, but theres a fundamental process together with some important points. First, just start building. Once you have something, send it on test runs while watching the g-force graphs. Wherever it spikes to high, make an adjustment by raising the element higher/making it larger or otherwise reducing speed through it. You need to gain an intuition, which you can partially replace by copying the designs of real coasters. As you practice, you'll figure how fast the train will be moving at various points and how high hills need to be, where inversions go, how wide of a turn to use, etc.

Biggest pitfalls for lateral gs are corkscrews too early in the ride, steep track turning into a hill, and UNBANKED TURNS. Vertical gs are less of a problem, just dont make fuckhuge hills before loops and keep successive airtime hills in proportion. Beyond that matter of practice and imitating real coasters, the only point that should require a tutorial is obsessively following the style of a particular manufacturer or min/maxing excitement/intensity. Some posters here have thrown up imgur tutorials for the former, and Fossil's dig site is the best resource I know of for the latter.

which is a method documented here https://github.com/OpenRCT2/OpenRCT2/wiki/Loading-RCT1-scenarios-and-data

where it seems that what Crappage has done assets-wise would be already taken care of by openrct2

but what about gameplay-wise? do his recreations have enhancements in that regard too?
I'm asking all this because by using both Crappage recreations in SC6 format and a full RCT1 installation with its SC4 files would result in a lot of duplicates under OpenRCT2's scenario selection menus, and i want to avoid that

>> No.4441894

>>4441869
Let's explain this with an example. There's a RCT1 map with a somewhat involved castle that used a stone landscape texture for part of the walls. If you did the regular import, that would be just plain terrain (dirt) for those parts of the walls. Crappage went through and put castle wall scenery objects in so that the walls are correct and complete. It isn't purely cosmetic, either. Crappage took more care in replicating the research order, accounting for the way some rides were rebranded in RCT2.
