It becomes as easy as dragging and dropping. The Mini consoles has a USB-C port. It's just using a software to install a new kernal, add your own games, while having the Mini plugged into your PC.

Go to YouTube and search hakchi snes.

All you do is download hakchi2, dump stock kernel (keep this if you want to go back to stock) and follow the instructions. It will tell you when to connect the SNES mini.

Then you flash the custom kernel. After that just add your roms in (can be zipped) and they will all be converted to work with the SNES mini. You can also search for box art or browse on your drive. Then sync those games over. By default, those games appear in a separate folder but you can change the view options in hakchi to have them show with all the stock games.

A few games don't work with Nintendo's clover emulator, so you'll need to add the retroarch addon and specify those games to not use clover emulator.

How many games can the SNES Mini hold? I know the NES one could hold pretty much all of them, but that's not exactly an achievement when the entire game library comes out at under 200mb.

The program will automatically detect the ones that won't work. You can also add NES games to the SNES mini. There's other emulators present but I haven't tried any but mgba which had the wrong aspect ratio and sound issues

I'm thinking about grabbing one of these. Can it run Gameboy games too? Like the way the SuperGameboy worked?

I want to add a bunch of my childhood favorites, but I'm afraid of bricking my only SNES mini. I guess if I manage to get my hands on one from the next shipment batch, I'll try it on a spare.

You can't really brick them. The original games are read only. You can always flash back the original kernel and start over if you have problems. The faq says even if something got interrupted you can still go back and flash again.

Save states are better than writing down passwords and save everything. Lives often get reset if you do an in game save. Plus you can jump straight into the game again, skipping intro logos.
