Honestly the only real problem with this controller is that it's too narrow. Widen it up by about an inch and it'd be gold.

I was 8 and never had any problem understanding how to grab the controller and neither did any of my friends or anyone I ever saw playing.

the sad thing is, people don't realize that the N64 controller was the best of its gen. the dualshock was "technically" superior, but almost none of the games supported it, and Nintendo was anal about making sure developers made smart design decisions and included custom control options, so they always played better.

You've never seen the inside of an N64 controller, huh? The whole joystick mechanism is kind of bulky and to try and stick away from the center would also mean you'd have to change the ergonomics of the entire controller.
