hey guys
I have an unusual problem, with my Nintendo 64
when I use it with my hdtv, it looks like shit
when I use it with my old crt tv, my tinnitus makes me unable to play
What do I do?

>> No.4299002

Buy the $35 upscaler from Walmart. If it still looks like shit then return it and give up.

Can I have a link to that article? I am an europoor so I don't know if it's available here

You should never use composite cables

Any more solutions guys?

I used S-video cables for my N64 on my HD set from 2006 and N64 looked amazing. If you have an S-video port use it.

That TV started shitting out and I don't know how I'm going to hook it up to my 4k set.

>>4299002
I hear these introduce huge input lag, is this true?

Of course old consoles look like shit on an HDTV. Mostly since they interpret 240p as 480i and try to deinterlace it.

Emulate. How many times do we have to say it?

My hdtv is a Samsung syncmaster 2333 hd. I don't think it has a s-video port, I am not at home so I can't check. What do I do if that's the case?

buy a modified n64 with rgb or hdmi out

This. If OP is so picky that he can't play with upscaling and he can't use a CRT then I'm sure inaccurate N64 emulation isn't going to be satisfactory for him either. He's going to need to pay with time or money to get a good enough signal out of his hardware to be acceptable on his display.

I can play with upscaling, it does not bother me

You said it looks like shit with your TV's upscaling but it sounds like you're planning to use a stand alone upscaler. Find a well-reviewed one that fits your budget.

If you're playing on an LCD, you'll have input lag anyway.

Tinnitus? I don't think a tv can cause that. I think your TV is fucked m8. Does it happen with every tv or just yours? Were there really people in the '90s who would walk into an appliance store and have their heads explode?

It's not my tv. When I go to my friend's house to play together my ears hurt, because he has a crt too. It's like normal tinnitus but much much forse

See a doctor. Not an ear doctor but a shrink. What you described isn't tinnitus and claiming to have a disorder when you don't is a clear sign of mental health issues. He can probably also refer you to someone who knows WTF they're talking about when it comes to hearing problems if it turns out it's not all in your head.

>he can't hear the CRT whine
>he's never even heard of it

Holy fuck I wish you underages had seen CRTs in the 80s instead of the 00s, they ALL fucking made that noise back then. Don't fucking say it doesn't exist or that it's just a meme, that shit was realler than your dumb ass and four times more annoying.

I wish I was lying about having tinnitus, my ears are constantly ringing and it's worse near the crts, I guess because of the frequency

That's just the sound CRTs make. Tinnitus is an actual medical condition and it doesn't just randomly happen when you're near a CRT and go away when you're not. All CRTs make that sound, just tune it out like every human on earth did for 60 years.

>> No.4301845

This. I don't recall 'em doing that shit brand new, but you get one about five years old? It'll sound like it's fucking broadcasting radio to outer space, man. And they only get louder with age.

>> No.4301847

>>4301845
They did it brand new too, it's a side-effect of the frequency they operate at. That's why CRT computer monitors don't do it, because the frequency is way, way higher due to the higher resolutions.

>>4299707
No, I don't feel like googling specifically for you but if memory serves me the people on the retrorgb forum seem to discuss the topic pretty in depth and I feel like there are probably some older threads on arcadecontrols. The whole fucking thing is a prickly pear of traditionalists and modernists beating each other over the head with elitism so it'll probably be pretty hard to pick out a good honest comparison of cheap upscalers among the far greater amounts of ones written by too-easily impressed idiots or cynical douchebags.

Fair enough, the way you worded it initially sounded like you were using the term generically. Sounds like you need to buy a Framemeister if you want to seriously upscale things and use HDTVs, since CRTs are basically out of the question.

>>4301814
>my ears are constantly ringing
Yes, that's what tinnitus is. CRT whine is just CRT whine. You're right, it's probably at a frequency at makes the tinnitus worse. You might try ANC.
