This is the true patrician's choice for cart racers on the N64
Mario kart cannot compare

I love DKR and in most ways it is superior, but I'd still say MK64 is the better game for me. The contols are tighter, I prefer the randomized weapons versus the upgradeable weapons of DKR, the framerate is vastly better and MK64's battle mode absolutely destroys DKR. Still a great game though, so much more to do and see.

It's weird that this uses full 3d models while MK64 uses sprites still. Really makes me think

If I were to guess, they didn't maximize the use of MK64 due to it being an early title

Nevermind, I didn't realize Diddy Kong Racing came out THAT early. Thought I got it in like 1999, but I even had the VHS tape, so I'm probably wrong

Probably one of the many reasons MK64 has a better framerate. Personally, I always found the MK64 sprites really appealing and charming. The models in DKR are just kind of ugly.

When I was a kid, I liked Mario Kart 64 the most. As an adult, I realized that Diddy Kong Racing was better.

Shitposting aside, the drifting in SMK/MK64/MKSC all feels pretty bad compared to newer ones. Definitely doesn't make me want to replay them for very long because of that.
I never really bother with DKR for multiplayer, but that adventure mode is sweet. Don't know why Nintendo abandoned Mission Mode from MKDS and MKWii (was cut out)

>> No.4295119

I find MK64 controls way better than modern MK games, with only MKDS having the best handling and drifting mechanics.

Mission Mode is in Mario Kart DS, and is actually really fun.

Unfortunately, Mission Mode was cut from Mario Kart Wii, but hackers have recently unearthed the hidden Mission Mode data and now modders are making custom, playable missions for Mario Kart Wii.

>> No.4296715

It has cart racing in it, but it's not a cart racer. Multi vehicle racer is more accurate.

Diddy Kong Racing, yet everything else ingame or out sounds like Timber is the protagonist. Just a nitpick, not a complain.

The compIain is that the characters are way too unbalanced. One can argue an impossibility of perfect balance, but in DKR is like they didn't even try much.

Actually, DKR is an interesting case. Some characters perform better depending on what kind of vehicle they have.
Krunch for example is pretty bad except when he is in water.

Funny how DKR became a better racing game then Mario Kart when it was originally designed to be an adventure game then converted over to a kart game and then they just slapped the Diddy Kong label on it.
