Bushido Blade 1 and 2 - Sort of realistic weapon fighting sims. You pick a character and a weapon and try to KO your opponent in one blow. It was an awesome party game back in the PS1's heyday.

Crusaders of Might and Magic - Bargain bin action RPG by 3DO. Only marginally related to the PC game of the same title, as each version was outsourced to different development studios. If you've ever asked yourself, "Were there any Souls-like games for PS1?", well, here you go.

King's Field - Speaking of Souls-like, this series was developed by the same studio. It shares some of the same elements, just not the complex character customization system or third-person view. If you want to try a similar game with an even darker tone, there's also Shadow Tower.

My only problem with this game is how disproportionate the graphics are. Twisted Metal had similarly bizarre designs. The textures for building structures are so low-detail that they look like toy models.

Apocalypse
Loaded
Warhawk
Jet Moto
MDK
Hell Night (never played it as it was import only but watching it on youtube it looks great)
Thrill Kill (I had a bootleg of the final version of this game in the early 2000's)
Destrega
Geikido
G-Darius
Devil Dice

Also a shout out to SlamScape for being a weird ass game that really looked great on PS1 (60 fps at almost all times) but was ridiculously hard.

I honestly feel bad for anyone who had a Playstation growing up but never owned this game. It's one of the best mini-game compilations of all time, possibly even the best. I had countless hours of fun playing this with my brother and my friends. The Mario Party games have nothing on this. There's no boring shoehorned board game mechanic to pad the game out. The focus is on the mini-games themselves and it's just mini-game after mini-game in fast succession. It's basically Warioware before Warioware even existed.

I have Unholy War. I really like the concept of the strategic mode, but the individual fighting engine is too simplistic to hold its own in the versus mode. The strategic mode is really cool but when I play it for a while I often wish there was more content to the game. You learn all the troops and their weaknesses/strengths fairly quickly and for me the game can kind of get stale against the AI. At least the AI can be challenging, but I bet the game would be really fun against a friend who also knows it well.

>>4297118
I managed to beat ONE somehow. The last couple levels are loaded with bullshit platforming segments, but the final boss is actually a really satisfying fight. He has a healthpool like yours, so if he hurts you he heals himself. I don't remember much about the ending except it was short and set up for a sequel (that sadly never came).

Wait, does /vr/ not know about and ADORE Bushido Blade 2? The single best sword fighting game ever made? Simple, deep, tons of endings and characters.

Bushido Blade 2 can be played by 2 people for HOURS. That's where the game shines: 2 players. Perhaps the best 3D fighting game ever made.... You vacillate wildly between 5 second fights and long, endless duels, with running and hiding and throwing dirt and knives.

Anyone looking for a truly perfect fighting game needs to play this one with a friend. It's even setup so that when 2 people are playing against each other, it just keeps going until you get sick of the characters and you quit back to the select screen. When someone dies, they come right back and shit keeps going.

The first game is more complex. You lose fights for disobeying the Bushido code. That means no throwing weapons, no slicing people when they're down, no stabbing in the back.

The second game removes that and focuses on fun.

One of the best two player games I've ever come across. Forces you to be aggressive, yet strategic and calculating. The idea is that you want to lure your opponent into traps you've set, meanwhile they're setting their own, trying to lure you into theirs. You can also use long distance and melee attacks while this is happening, although the traps themselves cause way more damage - especially if you can chain them together for multipliers. Environmental hazards play a factor as well.

Be warned though, you can get attacked by the other player while setting your own traps, which causes whatever you're building to blow up in your face. It's a great system of risk-vs-reward.

And yeah, the title itself is unfortunate, especially if you're spent enough time on 4chan, but thankfully the gameplay and neat characters make up for it. Great soundtrack, too.

it's a low budget game that cost less than 20 dollars
it takes like 4 hours to beat, it's not even supposed to be hard or intricate, just a fun and relaxing diversion

but why don't you admit the real reason you don't like it: you have no friends to play it with.

Not to mention great use of analog sticks, even minigames used them to their full extent, like that ski racing where every stick aligns left or right ski and you turn but controlling skies directly and speed depends on ski alignment during race.

not /vr/, but wrath unleashed literally copied unholy war's formula to the letter. if for some reason you really loved unholy war and needed more of it, check that game out
it's just a little bizarre to me seeing such an on-the-nose clone of a highly unique game, not even done by the original devs or anything.

My first console I owned was the SNES (had gameboys and all that shit too)
I'm a big Dreamcast fan too.

For some reason though, nothing makes me more nostalgic than PS1 merchandise. The packaging of the games, the games themselves and overall presentation.

All the sights and sounds really hit me in a way that no other consoles do.

I have little interest in anything PS2 or higher related as far collecting and playing goes.
