They're both sub-standard harping on a formula from 1995, RE3 is much worse for it's lack of any reason to exist as nothing happens in it that has any effect on the series. I mean Jill couldn't been sat at home the whole time and it would still have the same outcome as what happened in the game.

The biggest overall problem with RE3 (and I think many others and why it's mostly rated 2 > 1 > 3) is that you're given a "whole city" to explore - but not really

It's a bunch of corridors and tight hallways in a way that didn't feel realistic. If RE3 took place in Japan I'm sure it would be like that in a zombie outbreak, but Raccoon City feels more like a mansion or police station than a city

>RE3 was originally a spin-off game

Says the guy who worked on the scenario.. while Mikami says it was supposed to be an "add-on" called RE2.5.

But bringing alpha and betas ides and calling them "how it was supposed to be" isn't right. If we do that, then RE1 was supposed to be a FPS. Then it was supposed to involve cybords and have 2 player co-ops. Then, DMC was supposed to be RE4. Then, RE4 was supposed to be a survival horror involving smoke ghosts on a flying zepplin and a haunted castle. See where I'm going here?

The fact remains, the first time CV was ever EVEN mentionned was in TGS 1998 iirc, and it was already called Biohazard: Code Veronica. It was NEVER supposed to be RE3.

The problem is people are STILL getting confused because
>1) RE3 and CV were developped at the same time
I have no doubt that a magazine having exclusives images of CV would say "images of RE3!" on the cover. That's what they do, like they say "Duke Nukem 4" and "Silent Hill 5" even though neither ever existed.

>2) Even Capcom, before the announcement of CV and 3, was confused about what it was doing

Another fact is that CV could NEVER have been RE3, because CV was developped for Dreamcast from the start, and Capcom still had a contract with Sony to have a 3rd "main, numbered RE title" on Playstation.
If anything, CV is the spin-off because of this.
People who like CV over RE3 live in their own little fantasy in which they believe that claiming "CV was supposed to be RE3" somehow makes it less of a shit game.

When I think of atmospheric, I think of games like Demon's Souls, games which create a totally unique vibe through use of interesting lighting, environments, sounds and ambient audio-visual effects. The RE games don't have any of that. Just shitty, generic pre-rendered backgrounds that look like any old place with some fugly character models.

Are you retarded? You're conflating atmosphere with visual fidelity. This concept couldn't be any simpler for you to understand. I'm simply saying that a game like Demon's Souls has atmosphere because it creates a unique aesthetic. Plenty of games released during the same time, or even before RE series had atmosphere too. But RE doesn't. Don't be so fucking dense.

You're looking at it the wrong way if you ask me.

Both RE2 and RE3 have about the same amount of content. The only difference is the way they're laid out.

RE2 has 4 static scenarios, but 90% of all 4 is the same.

RE3 has only one, but with tons of different things that can occur, either depending on your actions, or semi-randomized.

The way RE3 does it is much better because you can replay it many times and it'll be different.
RE2's scenario system is total BS, making the player replay the same shit 4 times only to get a few mins of extra/different things each time.. and all 4 scenarios are completely static, no matter what you do. There is a reason why that kind of system was never heard of after...
