I thought my nintendo 64 was broken until I realized the expansion pack is missing and I have no idea where the jumper is. Does anyone know where I can find one really cheap?

the internet

Find a "friend" with an n64 he has around, but never plays.

I had to buy one off ebay op, I was in a similar boat a few weeks ago. They go from anywhere between 20-30$

I've heard that the 3rd party ones get a lot hotter than the official ones, and in the end you wouldn't be saving much. Get a used nintendo one from ebay or go hunt around.
I had to spend about $30 roughly.

I remember my friend bought a Pelican exansion pack. It stuck out of the slot like a tumor, yo couldnt even close the lid. His N64 started overheating and turning off. One day at his house I saw that he had taking off the plastic casing, and it looked like there was just a silicon chip sticking out of the expansion bay. It would still over heat. He had to get a small desk fan and have it blowing over it at all times. True story.

i'm pretty sure i've heard of third party expansion packs heating to the point that they simply killed themselves, but that seems like it would take an insane amount of heat
isn't it just like 4MB of RAM how do you mess that up

I will trade you for any SNES games. Hit me up if interested.

Now I'm really glad I didn't go cheap.. So yeah OP, if you hear this make sure you don't buy the third party 64 expansion packs.

What the expansion pack ever did anyway? I can't remember any difference on any game with or without it. Also, there was any other packs other than Jumper and Expansion pack?

It increased the system's RAM. Later games like Donkey Kong 64 and Majora's Mask needed it to run. You could tell the difference between those games and earlier N64 games. I think it made the earlier N64 games run a little better too.

The ones designed to take advantage of it.
Most of them didn't, and weren't even aware it existed. They weren't programmed to just 'use what's available' like PC games are- they're hardcoded to use 4mb. I mean, it's not like there's ever going to be more than 4mb- it's a console, not a PC.

The later ones had the option to use either, ie Shadow Man 64 and Hybrid Heaven.

some games were weird with it.. for example: perfect dark

you needed it to access most of the features, but could still run the game and play some of it without the expansion pack. that's how I got my own actually, from getting that game on one christmas.

then years later I either lent it to a friend or somehow I removed it and didn't remember where I put it. That's why I bought a used one a few weeks ago, so glad that I did. Hadn't played my 64 in years.

Then of course I lost the jumper pak so I couldn't use that in its place, but just today I found it in a box with some random junk of mine. Well at least I got it as a backup now.

Go to a thrift store and buy an N64 that has one in it. Open them and check. Or y'know just remove the pack...

If that's not an option, then yeah it'll be more online.

It also facilitated multiplayer boss battles in Turok 2, when you warped via cheating.

You can try actual maps but the game just can't do it for long at all. Like, a matter of seconds.
