When do you remember hearing about it? If it was before the year 2000, that would mean someone knew of it before the game was listed on coinop.

All the ridiculous nonsensical ways to revive Aeris in FF7.

The only actual way is Yuffie warp, but there were countless other that involved specific materias and stupid ammount of grind nobody ever managed to do.

My older brother told me you could get a secret hillbilly character named Bubba in FF6. You had to find him randomly on the Veldt. But you need to unequip you metal items first, because he eats metal for some reason. So I wandered around the Veldt unequipped for an hour or two.

Polybius is an internet myth from the 90s. There are people from the pacific northwest who claim it originated there locally before becoming popular on the internet.

There were plenty of myths about Mortal Kombat 1+2 such as secret characters (playable and non-playable), secret stages, secret fatalities, secret stage fatalities (such as the living forest trees eating your opponent). These myths were often 'proven' by badly doctored screenshots sent in to magazines, obviously made before the widespread availability of software like Photoshop.

It's not. It was created for coinop. Someone already did a video on the research of when it first popped up on usenet.

Polybius is fucking busted, finally.

Arcade games never did shit in the 80s to anyone, other than make people sick from playing too long. But the same shit happened to people playing computer games, like Starcraft deaths from playing two days straight.

The OP fucking video shows that it was created by the coinop database.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_7X6Yeydgyg

There is zero mention of it anywhere before the guy who controlled coinop posted about it on Usenet.

>Guy who controls coinop and also made the polybius article on coinop makes a post about it
>no one buys it
>he submits it to gamepro, his own made up story
>people start spreading it

That's it. That's the story of Polybius. No magazine or discussion group online ever mentioned Polybius before the coinop person made it up.

The video is over an hour of someone literately (not the meme, kid) googleing. It's what half the background is. Googled phots, videos, and him again literately (not the meme) googleing. Like I guess taking a screen capture video of your web browser as you google makes it "well researched" as multiple commentators say.
>There is zero mention of it anywhere before the guy who controlled coinop posted about it on Usenet.
Incorrect, kiddo. There's zero mention in what he could google. This guy didn't look at any local news or other local outlets for information about Polybius in or around Portland. The creator of the video is Ahoy. The guy is a retard that specializes in parroting information in a voice that underage likes. He has never done any real research into any topic he has uploaded. Why would he when all he has to do is literately (not the meme) google and upload a screen capture of him doing it. Or he just has random shadowed images of guns and video game footage. That garbage passes as well researched to you kids. Researching local history is tough and requires leaving your keyboard. Google has a lot of holes to no information when it comes to local papers and rags. Kids won’t care about it if you did that or not anyway.
It’s amazing that a guy googleing and doing nothing else somehow passes as well researched and apparently put the myth of Polybius to bed. Because he couldn’t find information on google pre a coin-up article… Ya… This is actually something in modern times. Shit you would read about in shitty scifi fiction is reality.

I can assure you kids that whether Polybius is real or fake, this coin op guy didn’t make up the story.

It should also be pointed out that what he did was lazy googleing at best. He Searched for “Polybuis” and other spelling of it. He didn’t search for mind altering video games or anything like that. Something to actually track the source of the legend. The original legend may not have been called Polybuis. Doing a search for that would had taken a real passion or $. You don’t make money on jewtube with real research. You make it with a voice and googleing. Kids and the ignorant will gobble it up as fact and parrot it.
This isn’t the first urban legend to be researched either. People put real work tracking down the origins of something like The Hookman. You don’t google something that’s pre mainstream internet. Polybuis is very much pre mainstream internet. I don’t know how you think you can google to discover the origins of it. Well I do know. Eceleb parrotors.

the notion that there is a myth about a game called polybius is a myth in itself.

it's a shitty forced meme made up post 2000. the main reason that it is so popular is that millennials see the 80's-90's as some exotic faraway country that they can project their own exotist fantasies on. when they look up myths like this one, they think they come closer to what it meant to be part of "the scene" back in "the days".
