It's an RPG.

It's a good RPG.

>original sega CD version
Yeah it's good

>> No.4267605

Both versions are good.
I still have my memory card sticker waifus in the guide for the ps1 version.
Boss battles are awesome if you like a challenge because they stay leveled upwith you and whatnot.
Also there are items you can miss permanently. Some extremely nice.
Make a save before going into the last area.
Working Designs had this crazy habit of making last areas a one way trip. Complete with save areas inside. Once you're in there's no return. Hence you'll burn through consumables with no restock option.
Save your silver lights til the last boss battle.

It's alright. The remake is a massive improvement though

a bit grindy but good

psx chnges the story a lot. woking designs messed with the translation a lot but its retty funny. i like the changes

Does the psx one feature a new translations?

Lol don't listen to the troll

>>4267864
Nope. In the sequel they didn't even re-record dialogue for the changed cutscenes so there are some that jusy don't fit it's pretty funny

>> No.4267880

>>4267864
Yes. Like the previous anon said, it changes a lot, but it's funny, and fits the atmosphere pretty well.

>> No.4267883

>>4267240

Yes, but only if you have the original Japanese script, which is truly a masterpiece.

>> No.4267907

>>4267883
Not really, Lunar's writing is pretty dull. It got by largely on its presentation.

Meh, i don't like clever translatos, i want to play the game that the developers intended to be played. And i'm done with american humor. I'll wait until the day a new translation is released (or i learn japanese.)

nope

>>4267960
You'll hate them then. They went in an added fart noises to a character to explain why he lives alone in a tower...

>> No.4268523

Fuck off, the Working Designs pretty much SALVAGED the snore-fest that was the Japanese script.

Mediocre as hell

Like Grandia, Skies of Arcadia, Breath of Fire

It's literally the same joke as in the Japanese version, just with an American politician instead of a Japanese politician.

>> No.4268978

>>4268763
As long as you're used to older RPGs, Skies is fine. The battles are slow and the encounter rate is high, so that's made it tough to recommend even though I love it otherwise.

It's a game all about the thrill of exploring except every dungeon is super short and super linear. That characters are bland and terrible and a lot of terrible in game voice work. The battle system is interesting, but not worth suffering through the game for.

>> No.4269979

I don't know about that, I missed the additional weapons from the original.

>> No.4269986

OP you will either really like the game or consider it a shit game, this is one of those games with no real middle ground. Everyone I have ever talked who has played this game has fallen into one of these two categories, I have never met anyone who considers anything in between.

>> No.4270000

>>4269986
This is probably correct.

>> No.4270056

Is the gba port worth? I'd do whatever it takes to avoid the goofy translation. I don't mind voice acting/anime cutscenes.

>> No.4270171

>>4270056
Yes and no. The translation doesn't have any of the goofiness to it, but it's like they went extra far and sucked all life out of the dialogue almost like it was just machine translated. It was done by Ubisoft so there's a good possibility the people doing it were primarily French speaking.

I despise the WD translation of the game and all the stupid bad jokes they shoehorned into it, but I couldn't actually bring myself to bother finishing the GBA port. So take from that what you will.

>> No.4270203

>>4270171
WD's pop culture references still give me a chuckle. I guess if you get the references because its stuff you grew up with or was just prevalent it doesn't seems as "offensive" as people make it out to be. To be honest, puritanical people who shit all over localization for not being "accurate" just seem to be salty for the sake of being salty. If the internet didn't exist, most of them wouldn't know the difference between the original and localization.

I played them at the time and if anything a little older than the target, they really grated on me and felt really out of place. Minus the Clinton, fart noises and Austin Powers shit I liked it though. AI loved the games anyways. Also I'll say this, the music they put together for the Star Dragon Tower is both awesome and fits with the rest of the music in the game.

dude my japanese is pretty good, and im a translator, but there are definitely times where im just like wtf is this shit, but thats usually with period language and field specific vocabulary (engineering, physics, chemistry, etc.) but its always a good learning experience.

I did this when it came out and yes it was dry, but it was decent enough. There are some games where you literally have to force yourself to play just to complete them, but this wasn't one of them.
