This is why the Turbografx-16 flopped.

>> No.4264024

The reason why TG-16 was unsuccessful is very similar to the reason the Master System was unsuccessful in the US. Bad distribution.

Guess where I bought my TG-16 games. Kay Bee? Circus World? Toys R Us? Camelot Music? K Mart? No. Elder fucking Beerman was the only place that sold TG-16 games at retail in my whole city.

Turbo Grafx CD flopped. It was easy to break or it wouldn't work at all and it was quite expensive back in the day.

Outlet store. Mum and Grandma used to go their every summer and depending on our grades we'd get games or whatever we wanted. Bro and I pooled our reward one year and got a TG.

Just because it flopped in our continent doesn't mean it was a failure

PC-Engine launched really late over here (like right in the middle of the war between NES and GEN) and just didn't have the games people were all excited to see. That's enough to make or break a console but it has cemented its reputation as an awesome shmup machine. It's also the first game console to use CD audio I think. So whatever

NEC blew their budget on manufacturing and had no money for marketing

launching 2 weeks after the genesis was also a death sentence

In Japan? I love my hucards, but they were fucking tiny and lacked storage. Why should a 16-bit game in 1992 only be 4 megs?

Was the Nintendo weebs that killed it. Has some really cool games.
Order of the Griffin sure beats the shit out of Warriors of the Eternal Sun

And like the Sega CD had way too many great games left in Japan.

this

In Europe, it was merely an import item with a failed launch in Britain

In japan, pce beat the megadrive but it also had a fuckload of hardware revisions. Once the snes came out, hucard sales dropped to rock bottom and the PCE-CD started to get shitty hentai games

Not a single game even sold close to 1 million copies.

Only a few stand out games back then sold that many anyways. It used to be a few hundred thousand was considered a success

kek. But if anything SEGA was the one that ate it's lunch in the west, not that NEC's lack of a good advertisement budget did them any favors.

NEC is a computer manufacturer, so it was natural I guess

A good amount of the models were utterly pointless though

>PC Engine LT (a laptop? that has to be plugged in)
>Duo-R and RX (functionally identical to Duo, but the R has better capacitors)
>Supergrafx (utter failure that came out too early)
>PC Engine Shuttle (no expansion port)
>Coregrafx II (not any different than I except maybe a slight sound revision)

Let's not forget the waste of the Arcade Card, a desperate attempt to prolong the lifespan of a dying console

I get the PCE-CD having a lot of Japan exclusive games but the Mega CD? They went as far as porting PCE-CD games to American Sega CD without releasing them in Japan for Mega CD.

Trust me, the Japanese game is not much better. WD added the lol-worthy difficulty that made the game unplayable, but Telenet is a lol-worthy developer that couldn't make a good game to save their life if Wolf Team wasn't the one developing it.* The base game is buggy, full of glitches, bad hit detection, shit level design, you name it.
