I mean, the game is fine, but those are all opinions.

It's overlooked a lot because people don't really know the Sharp and because Chronicles gets overshadowed not only by the inferior arrange included therein, but also by Symphony on PSX lists.

I really do like it a lot, I put it first. But all the 16-bits are good ones, I just don't like Super 4 because it's too slow-paced and not rocking enough for me. Meanwhile, Thrashard in the Cave SC-55 version kicks some motherfuckin ass.

Superb game, but it came out kinda late, as well as not getting very much exposure prior to the Chronicles release. Also

It was fun until that stupid water elevator part in the second level where I dropped it...if save states worked for me I'd be able to get past it probably but every time I save a state it's just a black screen when reloaded.

Because it originally came out for an obscure Japanese computer, so not very many know about it. Even though it got rereleased on PS1 it was towards the end of the PS1 life cycle and released in small numbers. It's kind of a rare game. Hence why it get the hipster bait treatment. Also there's a lot of Nintendo shills who were mad that a Castlevania game wasn't released on their plastic box but was released on a different plastic box instead. So in predictable Nintendo fanboy fashion, it automatically sucks because it wasn't on Nintendo.

the controls in cv were simply too limited to create dynamic challenges like in gradius or contra, with divergent outcomes from a small moveset

parts such as the bridges and time races with axe armors and medusa head sections are pretty much the peak

The other contender would be the Dracula fight on Dracula X. The battlefield is littered with pitfalls and half of dracula's attacks will knock you into one if you are not positioned just right or in a ducking state. In addition he has a lot of health so he has a lot of opportunitities to send you tumbling down. Unlike the NES vanias you can't cheese him with a triple power up and unlike the IGAvanias you can't just gargle potions or arm yourself with some OP spell/weapon.

OG Dracula X has been super-duper fetishized since the early 90s because of the fact that it was never brought over to the US. LOTS AND LOTS AND LOTS of butt-hurt Nintendo fags who were pissed the fuck off they got robbed of it in favor.

Shit got so bad, Konami tried to bullshit the angry mob of fans by creating a "new" version of Dracula X for the US but it was a super-duper retard baby bastardization of the original, which only further butt-hurt people who still wanted the real deal and not the retarded baby knock off Konami was shilling.

Dracula X was one of the very first modern games not released in the US that had people going gaga apeshit insane angry that it was not released in the US. Hell, even the video game magazines acknowledged it, right down to them throwing the US version of Dracula X under the bus for being a half-assed bastardization of the original.

On topic I'd rank it alongside Bloodlines. I prefer SCV4 and Rondo of Blood, but it's easily better than CV1-3 and SNES CVX. So just about in the middle.
