Yea I just started Ripto's Rage after replaying the original, and so far it's not as great as I remember.
Too many challenges for the orbs just feel pretty tedious, also too much talking yet Spyro barely says anything.
It's still a pretty great game though, love the homeworlds, a lot of the stages, music, and Elora.

>>4252225
And another thing, I hate how you have to buy new abilities from the 'bear jew', because it locks out parts of the realms when you first play them.
This might just be my autistic need to 100% complete every stage the first time though.

Yeah that's one of the big pluses about Spyro 1 for me: you can complete each level and each world without having to backtrack.

Just a simple and fun platformer collectathon.

And it has the best music.

I agree.
As much as hd remakes would be nice and I'd probably play them, I'd like to see a game that went back to basics and tried to be closer to what made the series good in the first place.
Of course since activision are a bunch of twats they'll probably just keep making plastic craplanders since that's what sells.
Yooka-laylee like knock-off perhaps?

Yeah, I recently re-played Spyro 2 that way, abusing Double Jump as much as I could.

Sadly my old disc is way too scratched and two of the levels in Winter Tundra refused to load (screen would just go black and game would hang) so I couldn't get 100%.

I’ve never played the sequels, but I actually just completed the first game, 120%, a few hours ago. And I’m actually a bit surprised by how much more I was able to appreciate it as an adult than I was as a kid.

I know it goes without saying, but Spyro has to have one of the best color pallets in any game I’ve ever played. I swear each level had a different colored sky box, and before even landing I felt like I was able to get a certain “mood” from each level. Really makes the worlds feel organic, while also remaining unique amongst itself. All the while being accompanied by a truly stellar OST.

Never actually picked up on how each of the realms had a differently modeled dragon, until now. That was cool to see. I can tell a lot of care was put into really making this world and all the parts that make it up shine. Magic Crafters and Dream Weavers being the best examples from my experience. The game did start to lose me a bit when I found myself facing Commando Frog People packing machine guns and grenades though. But that’s just my own nitpicky autism.

Gliding is such a cool mechanic. And I liked how it does take some cleverness to pin point the platforms that were hidden away from the beaten path. Made getting all the gems actually feel satisfying from level to level. The Super Charge was well utilized as well for the same sort of reasons. Being required to use it in order to clear large jumps made for the possibility for some cool level layouts, and they did take advantage of that fact.

Spyro himself is a bit floaty for my tastes, though I understand the point of it, with his wings being such a big part of his mobility. And the platforms were usually wide and spacious enough to where this wasn’t a problem. But I never felt like I could get the hang of avoiding enemies, or that I was ever really capable of out maneuvering them consistently, even with the dodge role. But who know, maybe I just suck.

All in all, very solid game.

Yeah, AHT was the closest the series ever came to re-creating the quality of the original trilogy. The level design is there, the platforming and collecting is there, the humor is there...although there are some really odd things like Ember disappearing past the first world, and Flame literally showing up once and then never appearing ever again. Why is this character even here? It feels like unfinished content that was accidentally left in the game.

Though the ps2 version seemed to have issues with saving, because my save file got corrupted like 5 times before I was able to beat it.

When I was a kid I had access to all 3 of them because my uncle let me play with his ps1. This allowed me to switch quicky between games and Spyro gameplay left me with different experiences and memories all together. Last year I found out only Spyro 2 worked and even that game, just after defeating Ripto for the last time the game broke forever, not letting me complete it 100%. Thus not letting me visiting at least one Summer Sunshores. Fucking gnorcks
Then I bought all 3 of them in the ps3 playstore, only to understand why I switched games a lot. Man, original Spyro was hard, but completing it at 120% felt so good. Spyro 2 left hanging and now Im stuck at the last level (the bonus one, after 150 eggs).

Spyro is such a good game

For me, it was more of a PS3 issue than an issue with the PSN version. The PS3 just sucks at emulating original PlayStation games in general, it just wasn't a huge focus when designing the console I don't think. On the other hand, playing the PSN version on a PSTV with the 'disc speed' setting set to high? That runs great.

Spyro A Hero's Tail and Crash Twinsanity are both pretty underrated additions to their respective series, I think. Although the former has shitty voice acting and plot, and the latter is really short due to a lot being cut late development. And both are quite buggy. Still, both are at least worth a try in my probably outspoken opinion, even though I can't guarantee you'll like them.
