Anyone know about this "game"? Can anyone provide a basic gestalt?

Did you watch it to the end? Ahoy made some insane reasearch and couldn't find a single source before a 2000 website entry that contained all the details later paraphrased by other sites/magazines. It's all made up, case closed.

Probably pieced together from some real shit that actually happened. But the game itself did not exist.

>>4250851
It was a local myth in the northwestern united states back in the 90s. Some old-timers from the early arcade days claim to have heard it as far back as the 80s.

This is the most thorough article I can find on Polybius: https://retrobitch.wordpress.com/2015/10/29/reinvestigating-polybius-with-2015-update/

But the basic gestalt, at its simplest, is this: >>4250865

>> No.4251135

Norman Caruso did a piece on it, if anyone's curious or wants another take on the legend.

I just watched the video on it. Ahoy does some really impressive shit.

The video game itself, if it existed, probably wouldn't have nearly as much fan fare. In my opinion, yes the government does unconscionable things when they know there will be no whiplash and every time there's a huge sensation and people consume a single product for 3 hours a day in dark rooms in basements, they put their two cents in. I could cite some programs but it'd just stir up bullshit politics. The bottom line is there, looking back, I would nearly guarantee to you than Polybius, not the game itself but actually a game programmed to test neuro linguistic programming on a large scale almost definitely existed. If you think that's bizarre, I can see how you'd feel that way, but let's be clear: Polybius exists even though it's not the game itself. I mean even on the level of fast food companies use this shit. It's just marketing. All their logos are red and orange and they produce consistent desire to consume in a hurry. And you don't think that in the 80's of the thousands of games that came out, they didn't quietly put a machine out that would make you dizzy or at the slightest bit more calm? We're talking about a government who poisons the drinking water for christ sake.

It exists dude, but we don't know the name of it.

In the 80s a shitload of unreleased arcade games were put into random arcades. It's totally possible an unnamed game made people sick. Motion sickness is easy to achieve with weird visuals in a dark arcade.

I saw it was an hour long as was like yeah, I can find better things to waste an hour on than a youtube documentary on a game that doesn't exist...when's more gun videos that are like 20 minutes?

>The article you posted mentions an old usenet post from 1994, but in ahoy's video he searched multiple usenet archives and was unable to find literally ANY piece of evidence that something like that existed. And then when Polybius was added to coinop.org in the early 2000s many coin-op collector's immediate reactions were "sounds like a hoax".

These are people who were heavily involved in the scene at the time Polybius was first mentioned on the internet. If they had never heard anything about it then I'm going to guess it never existed. Was there possibly some game that did exist that made people sick? Could be, but it wasn't Polybius.

If he's wrong you can check his work and prove it yourself. You don't even really have to prove the game exists just show a shred of evidence that the game was ever mentioned anywhere prior to like 1998-2000.
