So I've been trying to get my girlfriend into the vidya a bit (as you would) and I thought she might like adventure games. I showed her Broken Sword: Shadow of the Templars and she loved it. She's now playing through The Smoking Mirror (I like the first one better, but they're both good). So my question to you is, what are some other classic adventure games she might like? Also general adventure discussion thread because why not.

>> No.425440

How about the Kings Quests games? My father and I would play them together all the time.

Vidya for girls?

I've managed to get two girlfriends really into games.

The first one was a number of years ago with Lunar (the PS1 remake). Girls love Lunar. Have her try it.

Current girlfriend got into games from playing Persona 3 Portable, since that version has a self-insert silent female protag, so it's basically an interactive romance novel with dungeon crawling. However, P3P is not retro.

Adventure games? Girls typically seem to like Monkey Island games..

>> No.425554

The ladies seem to love JRPGs.

Start her off with one of the Final Fantasy games.

Stop trying to get your girlfriend into video games. Fucking pantywaist.

Indiana Jones and the Fate of Atlantis

Similar tone and gameplay to the Broken Sword games but it's Indiana Jones

Ah thanks man, that's actually a great suggestion. I don't know how those Indy games slipped my mind.

>Also general adventure discussion thread.

I just mentioned what got me thinking about replaying classic adventure games is all, you don't even have to mention it, could just talk about Day of the Tentacle or something.

>Besides, how else are people gonna appreciate retro gaming if nobody's like, "Hey, you should play this!" and point them in the right direction?

>People suggesting RPGs

Jesus, read the thread. He's asking for adventure games.

Have you taken her through the "canon"? Monkey Island, Sam and Max, etc?

>Director's Cut
What's wrong with you? Get the original.

Anyway there's tons.
The Longest Journey, Grim Fandango, the Monkey Island series (1-4), Simon the Sorcerer 1&2, Callahan's Crosstime Saloon, Blade Runner, The Last Express, The Dig, Sherlock Holmes and the Case of the Rose Tattoo and the Tex Murphy series,.

Some recently released good ones are:
Deponia 1&2, the Dark Eye: Chains of Satinav, The Whispered World, the Journey Down, Lost Horizon, a Vampyre Story and the Book of Unwritten Tales.

Now THIS is a list. Thanks man, you know what's up. Also, Director's Cut because I don't have the originals anymore so I got them on Steam for like a toonie or something.

Also, really appreciate those new suggestions because while I've heard of a lot of the classics, I don't know a lot of newer ones that can live up to the great oldies.

I personally suggest Hotel Dusk, though it's not 'retro'.
One of the best adventure games I've ever played.

Man, it looks really cool, but I don't have a DS, haha. Thanks for the recommendation though.
>>425969
Haha, yeah, I know exactly what you mean, and yea, I'll definitely get to those, especially the Monkey Islands. I love Sam and Max but I found Hit the Road was kind of inscrutable with the puzzles sometimes so I figured I'd hold off on that for a bit.

>get them from Steam
GOG gives you both director's shit and the unbutchered originals.

You missed all the adventure games by Wadjet Eye Games (Gemini Rue, Primordia, the Blackwell saga)

>> No.428645

She would probably really like the third one as well, though I guess it doesn't count as retro...

Does Quest for Glory 1-4(V doesn't exist) count as an RPG or as an adventure game? Anyway I strongly suggest recommending this series after she went through some classic adventure games.

>> No.428658

I would assume if she's a typical girl she'd enjoy The Longest Journey.

As far as non-adventure game goes, it entirely depends on how turned off she is by actions in her games. If she is tho, I suggest rpgs.

Specifically pokemon.

Bitches love pokemon.

>So I've been trying to get my girlfriend into the vidya a bit
What? Why? Don't. Why the fuck would you? If she wanted to, she'd play games without your shitty help. Just enjoy your hobby and let her enjoy yours.

It's cool of couples share hobbies, but it is profoundly unwell if one is pushing the hobby onto another. Of course she is going to try and like the games. She'll end up getting bored and hating the whole thing.

If she's likely to be into games, she'll get started without your nudging. I keep the girlfriends away from my hobbies unless they're very insistent, and even then I let them back out of it any time they want.

Adventure game with RPG elements imo.
It usually gets brought up in point and click threads.

Personal ranking BS > BS3 > BS2.
But that's probably because I vastly preferred the venues in BS3 and strolled through the box pushing shit.

My wife loves all the old Sierra and Lucasarts adventure games, OP. Try those. Phantasmagoria, King's Quest, Space Quest, Monkey Island 1/2, etc.

if you leave the game alone for about 1 minute, whilst the tarantula approaches, it'll leap onto George's face and kill him

Samorost 2, Machinarium, Botanicula for some modern point-and-clicks that are good for girls new to gaming.

How about the Discworld Adventure games?

Zelda seems to have appeal with plenty of girls

I always recommend Snatcher, it's my favorite adventure game anway, and she might like to see a more Japanese take on the genre. But maybe stop at the end of Act 2.

>> No.429805

Adding to the above suggestions, I'd encourage you to show her the Syberia games. Fun as fuck, plus a female protagonist.

The curse of monkey island.
Or one of the monkey island special editions, they're more userfriendly and you can switch to the classic version anytime.
