The very first were heavier on the motor than an original GD-Rom, and CD-RWs killed the laser (but not CD-Rs).

The data is written backward on a Dreamcast disc (center to rim VS rim to center on a regular CD - or the opposite, I never remember...). As a consequence the 1st CD-Rs had the data in the wrong place and forced the CD motor to work more. It was fixed by adding a dummy file to push the data to the right place. So a motor issue, not a laser one.

CD-RWs on the other hand killed the laser. Natively a DC can't read a CD-RW, so you need to adjust it's power. In doing so you give it more than it should handle and create a premature wear.

Both games you mentioned have VMU minigames, though I've never played them. The original scene rip removes some content and to my knowledge is the only that would fit in a regular CD-R. The issue is size requirements, and 99-minute disks are not recommended. They burn poorly, aren't read easily (way more motor damage), and have awful QC. It wouldn't be a worthwhile project to redo Arcadia at some point.

We don't know that for sure because there were never any sales figures released for the HD versions.

>> No.4258734

>>4258641
Well considering the fact that there's been plenty of PS3's & Xbox 360's sold, PSN & Xbox Live Arcade are easily accessible.

Digital games always sell more than physical copies, Sega must have known this, otherwise most of their games wouldn't be up on PSN or Xbox Live Arcade.

So I'd have to assume that many people who played Sonic Adventure 1 & 2 or people who never got a chance to play Sonic Adventure 1 & 2, but wanted to, ended up buying it on Xbox Live Arcade or PSN. I guess it all depends on chance...

Xbox 360 sold 80 million consoles.
PS3 sold 80 million consoles.
Gamecube sold 21 million consoles.
Dreamcast sold 9.13 million consoles.

Now let's see the sales figures for Sonic Adventure 1 & 2...

Sonic Adventure 1 sold 2.5 million copies.
Sonic Adventure 2 sold 2.68 million copies.
So there's at least about 2.68 million people who either bought the game on Dreamcast, Gamecube or both, I can't tell because they haven't given an exact number on Gamecube sales or Dreamcast sales separately after looking it up.

In either case, 21 million or 9.13 million isn't a large enough number to make the Sonic Adventure games largely accessible. But 160 million Xbox 360 & PS3 owners are enough to make the game largely accessible.

If we were to divide 160 million PS3 & Xbox 360 owners by 15 million Dreamcast & Gamecube owners combined, we get 10.66 million. Divide that by 2.68 million and we get 3.97 million. Times that by 3 and we get an estimated number of at 11.93 million people who are likely to buy Sonic Adventure 1 & 2 on Xbox Live Arcade & PSN. I could throw Steam in the mix, but considering the fact that most PC users are pirates, that's a no go.

You obviously never owned a Dreamcast. I can think of something way louder, which is my surround sound system, which tends to drown out the sound from the "fan" that's keeping the Dreamcast cool. Have you ever even used the controller? The analog stick rotates, my thumb always slips off of it, the triggers are too far down, and the buttons are mushy shit. The only good thing about the Dreamcast controller is the VMU.

Nah. If I wanted to go blind, I'd sit 3 inches away from the computer monitor, just like you're doing to try to notice "framerate" differences.

>Have you ever even used the controller?
Of course I've used it. I've been using it since 1999. So in my experience, the controller is fine. It doesn't "slip" with my thumb because of the bumpy texture on it. The triggers aren't far down, they're in the right place & fits my hands perfectly. Buttons too mushy? Not to me. It seems obvious to me that you never owned a Dreamcast, plus you flat out admitted to hating it. So it wouldn't make any sense for you to play or own a Dreamcast. I hate the Wii, you don't see me owning or playing on one.

>Good for you. I live with other people
You mean your parents? LOL That would make a lot of sense why you wouldn't crank up a stereo. Your parents wouldn't like that.

>If I wanted to go blind, I'd sit 3 inches away from the computer monitor, just like you're doing to try to notice "framerate" differences.
Distance from the screen doesn't matter. The difference between 30 and 60 fps is noticeable whether you're 1 foot away from the screen or 10.
>It seems obvious to me that you never owned a Dreamcast, plus you flat out admitted to hating it. So it wouldn't make any sense for you to play or own a Dreamcast.
I actually do own a Dreamcast. That's why I know I fucking hate it. The bumps aren't enough to stop my thumb from slipping off. Your fingers must be one inch long if the triggers are in the right place.
>I'm glad I live on my own, it's satisfying to hear music, movies & video games as loud as I can handle it.
Headphones are better.

>I can't like games released on a console I hate?
Of course you can't. If you like Sonic Adventure you like dreamcast. It wasn't just "released" on that console, the pc version is merely a port of a port.

Definitely. When playing a game like Crazy Taxi, the Dreamcast controller is the best one to use.

This any good? I'm a sucker for horizontal shmups and besides this and Border Down, I don't know of any others on DC.

Breddy good. The graphics are downright amazing, they shit on most modern (((indie))) games, and the gameplay is solid too. I particularly like the fact that it saves after each level so you don't have to beat it in one sitting and also can practice a particular level over and over.

This. The health status/ammo count VMU feature is actually practical and the DC ports of 2 & 3 have some extras not present in the PS1 and GameCube versions.

It's just so short. There are three routes through the game but it still doesn't add up to much.
I guess that potentially makes it a good party game, but only two can play.
