Video game stores aren't looking to rip you off, they are there to give you a fair price, and stay open. You have to see it from their perspective as well, the store has to make a profit and pay rent. Thats harder and harder to do these days because of online shopping and smart phones.

$35 is a pretty fair trade in value for a reseller. Most crummier places don't even give the 30% I mentioned, it's more like 10%. If I was behind the counter it would have been my first offer too. Your expectations are unreasonable, sell that shit on eBay instead.

I never sold any of my video games, but my biggest regret involves my genesis. I loved my genesis, and even though I sucked and only had 3 games of which only sonic 1 was any good. Now I don't k ow why, but I never saw adds for any new games or consoles as a kid so I only found out about the N64 when my parents went to a mercury dealer and they had one for the kids to play while the parents shopped for a new car. I had to have one, and did get one. The genesis got packed away, and all my time playing games was on that N64. Well we moved and my Mother made me throw out my genesis, and would not change her mind no matter how much I pleaded. I regret it to this day, and I still wish I had taken it with us without her knowing. I regret it even more than giving my lime green GBC to my cousin when I got a GBA.

>> No.424224

But at that moment, I was just a little kid. All I wanted was to play Mario Sunshine and SSB. I still remember looking at my parents and saying: But...but mario... he isn;t on this thing. They said I'd get over it and that this was obviously better. Those games were my world and me and my friends already talked about how much fun we were going to have playing them. But nooooo, the gamecube is for kiddies and your brother is getting older so he has to have the cooler system. On which he bought almost no multiplayer games and you couldn't simply play with 4 players, you had to buy an add on.

Fuck I hate my friendless brother. Despite the fun I had with the PS2, I just know that even though it was a lesser console I would have had a lot more fun with the Gamecube playing SSBM and other games. But he had to ruin that. He had to be a selfish beta who had no opinion and did what the cool kids said he should do despite what he wanted. My Nintendo heart was stomped on that day, and not having grown up with a gamecube still hurts sometimes. That day at the store was one of the saddest moments of my life. I later bought a Wii but the magic those games had as a kid was gone already. I only wish I could've experienced it.

I don't know why I ranted here about this. I was just thinking about this last week, and I guess I just needed to vent.

>> No.424216

I remember, a long time ago, me and my brother wanted a Gamecube, but we had to sell our N64 with 4 controllers and all the great games, both LOZ's, SSB, MarioParty/kart/64, F-ZeroX, Starfox64, pokemon Snap/ stadium 1&2, Goldeneye and more. Now as a kid this saddened me, but the thought of getting to play all their sequals on the Gamecube was an exciting one. Then, when we went to the store to buy one, I ran off to look at all the Gamecube games. When I got back to my brother I saw this acne ridden older kid telling my brother/parents the final words of his speech. That the PS2 was the better choice. My parents and brother being the idiots they are believed this smug fucker and bought the PS2. Now this is not a PS2 hate post. I had a lot of fun with it and was exposed to many games I otherwise wouldn't have played.

hmm maybe. Probably. But I was young, and 4 player multiplayer wasn't that common, and we got the extension thing which made it possible only 2 years or so after that, so me and my friends never really had many multiplayer game afternoons after that. Which really sucked.

Looking back on it I still missed a bunch of quality PS2 games cause like I said, my brother was the one most catered to at that time and if he didn't think it was cool we didn't get it. Never played Shadow of the Collosus or any MGS games for instance, instead GTA, need for speed and Fifa street everywhere.

All the game's I've sold were either shitty bargain bin GBC games, or shitty bargain bin XBOX games, with a handful of gamecube and 360 titles tossed into the mix. Never gave any of my games/consoles away except once for my distant cousin's bithday (see below)

Only things I regret was when I gave my GBC away a few years ago (sentimental reasons only, I have two GBA's), and when i sold Clay Fighter 63 1/3 (paid a $1, but I dont own an N64 so I used it to get $4 in credit instead)
I also kinda regret selling Greg Hastings Paintball for the XBOX, but my LGS sells it for $3 so thats not that big of a problem.

I did however throw my original XBOX out after the power supply died, I also threw away my spare PSP 3000 after stepping on it and damaging the screen. That was before either of them could be modded and I had 360, but they're also both easy fixes.

So in my town, there were 2 game stores- Mario's and Play N Trade

Mario's was a welcoming place to gamers, and priced very fairly, usually below Ebay. They were a Mom n Pop store in a small corner of the mall. This place was like my second home.

Play N Trade was a national chain, and they were unwelcoming and never did price adjusts. They priced games at Ebay average price plus shipping. This place was like Mordor. We don't speak of it.

Now, Play N Trade folded due to shady business practices, and the store was bought by an employee who inherited all the old stock for free. He manages it like a mother fucking saint, pricing all items at market value and doing price adjusts to where he just needs to turn a profit, and runs the store on money from repairing old consoles.

Mario's owners (an elderly couple from Arizona) opened up another branch of the store and are turning it into a chain. They have taken up a new policy of pricing directly from Ebay, and doing zero price adjusts.

>Walk into Play N Trade (Now called Game Changerz)
>Link's Awakening DX (CiB Good+)
>$49.99
>Me "Hey man, can I talk you down a bit on this?"
>Manager "Sure, how's $30 sound?"
>Me "Hmm, could you do $20?"
>Manager "Like $19.99? Sure, if you get another game at full price"
So I bought Link's Awakening and Super Mario Land, all for $25.00

>Walk into Mario's
>Pokemon Gold (Loose Cart NM+)
>$24.99
>Me "Hey could you go to $20 on this?"
>Manager "No price adjusts. You will be hard pressed to find a better deal."
>I pull it up on Amazon for $18
>Manager "Well shipping will put that well over $30"
>Me "I have Amazon Prime. Shipping is free"
>Manager "Well then just get it if it is such a good deal. You have no idea what it will look like"

The management of the store that was so good to me in the past are turning into bastardmen, and the old shithole is becoming a mecca for gamers. What is happening? I feel like times are changing.

Life can be quite unpredictable in the marketplace eh?

A Electronics Boutique store gave me a copy of Earthbound for free yesterday as they were trying to get rid of it, I just saw it on the counter and said to myself...mmm it must cost a pair of balls. Eyeballs that is.

I ask them, how much for earthbound?

The employee on the counter says:
It's free, if you buy 50$ worth in games.

Shit, I said to myself, I don't have 50 bucks.

I decide to make a bet to the employee, If I can maintain 3 boxes in the air for one minute I win the game.

He says: If you lose? What do I get?

I'll suck your cock.

The employee whispers to me: You know what? Meet me at the parking lot near the trash at 11 ' o clock, if you suck my cock, I'll give you the game.

I'm gay, and apparently he was gay too.

Guess what? I got to suck cock AND get a FREE, and the employee became my boyfriend.

Okay, Anons, taking this subject in a bit of a reversal, here.

>"Dafuq? Thing's heavy as fuck..."
>Lightbulb goes off above head.
>"Mine!"
>Inspect price scribbled on case in China Marker
>$3.85
>"Oh hell, yes! Definately mine!"
>Find Fiancee' and open case with her there

The case still had the original strap on it, had the original Game Boy (White Plastic, 4 AA's, B/W Dot Matrix LCD) with the plug for the Game Link Cable still in the socket, still had the battery cover, and had a Link Cable and SMB: 6 Golden Coins in the cartridge slot.

I kept my GBA and all the GB/GBA Games I had as a Teen. (Learned my lesson when my Sis kept stealing my shit and saying "I bought it on eBay...", she tried it with my GBA, and my only response was "Then explain how my initials are carved under the batteries..." Mom checked, and she never stole from me again...because I "Inherited" her entire Manga collection, at parental discretion.) So, basically, I now have an original, Near Mint system on which to play the old cartridges on.

Moral: Always keep your eyes open, you never know when a killer deal will pop up.

There is a small kid that broke his PS3 and is afraid of telling anyone. And you are afraid to tell his parents like a normal human being what is wrong with the PS3. Also you must really look like a bum that they would call the cummunity police.

Trust me. I regretted doing that right away. I thought it would be good after seeing the Rockstar logo. I was wrong.

That feeling is even worse with LA Noire. Holy fuck what a letdown.

Man I hate people like you. I worked at a local store and assholes like you came in all the time.

That's like taking a nice car to a dealership and then being surprised that the value is markedly lower than what you'd sell for person to person on kelly blue book.

Nobody is going to come in and buy those games at full value, and they're gonna sit there for forever.

Just a correction, it's MK3, Ultimate edition I think, not 100% sure because I've never been a fan of MK, which only makes the situation worse, I know, I still wonder WTF I was doing.

We all did that shit when we were younger. It was harder to get games when you didn't have a job or money to speak of. I ended up doing dumb trades like that too.

That's actually a pretty great idea. I'm sure that /vr/ blankets most of the country, and most of us use local shops to buy games.
