I fucking suck at it. I think it'll be the same story as with TLJ. I was playing this game for 3 YEARS! Because I've refused to check any walkthroughs. Only after three months of walking around and not moving forward even a bit, I had to check what to do. It was about how to use Cola to get close to the fallen ship.

Still, fucking three years, with a little breaks. And I'm going finish Beneath a Steel Sky without absolutely any help. Unless I get really frustrated... is it even worth it?

About the best sci-fi retro game, I'm going to be unoriginal and say Alpha Centauri.

I spent untold hours modding Escape Velocity and EV: Override in my bedroom. Usually just overpowering the shuttle, loading up a custom weapon, and conquering a bunch of planets to see just how many defenders each one had. As far as I could tell, Earth was unconquerable since the defenders never stopped coming. I think I blew up fighters for about 30 minutes straight before I got sick of it and jumped out of the system to one of my many tributary worlds.

In a straight game, I would usually trade for a while, doing lucrative long-distance routes and dangerous transport runs through pirate territory. Then once I had upgraded a few times I'd seek out the best-armed large ship I could find, load a few fighters into the bay, hire an escort or two and go into piracy myself. The argosy-class ships and the luxury liners had the best haul-to-defense ratios, so I preyed on those, mostly. Sometimes I followed the storylines, too, but most of the time I was just out there being an interstellar rogue.

Good times, and a great escape from the constant depression and accompanying insomnia that was my high school life.
