Very true. Since modern games are primarily 3D, the D-pad is primarily used for things like hotkeys. Playing Sonic Mania with the PS4 D-pad has been terrible.

The classic controller pro and the Saturn pad have great dpads, they roll on your thumb real nice. DS4 is serviceable for retro games but the dpad isn't tight enough for platformers.

This, the DS4 is comparatively awesome to the xbone.

I didn't try the xbone pro or whatever with the microswitches for retro gamin because I went all in on PS4 controllers because they have such good Bluetooth support, and I don't like having multiple different radios competing in my house.

It's dpad is a hell of a lot better than the ps1 was. They all do suck though.

Best controller on the market right now. Make sure you get the one S controller though. They fixed the D-pad compared to the original, so you don't need as much force for the button to register. Playing mania with it right now and its perfect.

Lol switch pro controller is the worst controller of current gen. For me in terms of comfort it's xbone s > ds4 > switch, in terms of buttons and analogs quality it's ds4 > xbone s > switch. Noone can prove me otherwise.

The DS4 might have the best d-pad I've used so far. It took some time getting used to but the precision of the d-pad is excellent for fighting games. I play Tekken 7 regularly and doing just frame moves is as easy, if not easier than on a ds3.
