Going Hunting today, posting this first and will return with pictures (hopefully) of good finds!

Still need a thread picture.

>What is Videogame Deal Hunting?
It is the process in which an avid collector goes through to build up their collection without spending much money.
>I.E. Going to Flea Markets, Thrift Stores, Second Hand shops, Retro Game Stores, Estate Sales, Auctions, Garage sales, and Craiglist.
Note: If you bought it from an Auction site like eBay then make sure it was a good deal. Buying online is pussy shit otherwise!

What belongs in this thread?

>Past stories of great finds. (This can be yours, or someone else’s. Even folklore.)
>Places that you go in order to find these deals.
>Discussion of hot and cold locations. (Who has good deals, who doesn’t.)
>Pictures of items you have found personally, or items that have been posted before. (Try and make sure it is a legitimate find.)
>Questioning whether you got a good deal on certain items.
>General Discussion of the hobby that is collecting videogames. (Why do you do it? Prized piece? Etc.)
>Feel free to post your collections as well….collecting is directly related to hunting.

What doesn’t belong in this thread?

>Posting items you intend to sell on here, or another site.
>People who are not collectors, but re-sellers. (If you are both that is fine, but re-sellers tend to piss off collectors.)
>Anything that isn’t directly related to videogames, or great deals on them.
>Making up stories about insane deals.
>Anything bought from GAEMSTOP or EB GAEMS. (This is NOT deal hunting.)

REMEMBER: You don’t have to have found a 100 dollar game for 5 dollars to contribute. A find like that is uncommon. Feel free to post the Gameboy color that you found for 8 bucks,
or a NM Game Cart that really ties your collection together. Videogame Deal Hunting isn’t based on the value as much as it is based on the thrill of finding the item.

I keep bragging about this all over this board, but I'm still pretty proud of my Ebay deal where I got Guardian Heroes, Golden Axe: The Duel and a working Saturn for $80. Guardian Heroes alone fetches 150% of that price, it's the best deal I've come across.

It's almost garage sale season so I'm looking forward to heading out into the fray. My city also has an electronics-only Goodwill that's good for these things, but the best deals I've found there aren't /vr/ related.

There is a place in the nearby mall called "The Game Store". Yeah. So anyway last week I'm in there and spot a boxed NES on sale for $30. I couldn't swing it right then, but would be able to in a few days. So this morning I go back there, preying that it is still available. Got there 5 mins after opening. There it is!! Tell the girl that I'll take it, bust out the card, and notice that the box she just put in the shopping bag was light enough for her to lift with one hand. Turns out they were ONLY SELLING THE BOX. FOR $30. JUST THE BOX.

So toss a complete NES into it and flip it for five times that.

Bah, I have to dip out of hunting for a bit. Destroyed my funds buying a car with cash, right after sinking a few hundred into Neo Geo stuff.

Okay, bit of a tangent here, but could you have possibly chosen a more unfortunate name to tripfag with? I mean, not that there's a reason why your identity matters in the first place, but... why associate yourself with... that guy?

Polite sage since this has nothing to do with the thread, and people on video game related boards don't seem to understand the purpose of sage.

I spotted a green game boy pocket ('complete in box') for €50.
What's so special about it?
Does it play all regular game boy games, or is there a limitation because it's a jap import?

My grandma manages a local ARC Thrift Store and one of her workers, this old Japanese guy named Olan, lets me and my cousin rummage through the back of the store to find power cords, controllers, games, systems, whatever we want and then prices it right there for us for cheap.

So far I've picked up:

>NES
>Complete with A/V Cord and Power Cable
>Controller
>Super Mario Bros. 3
>$8.00

>N64
>A/V Cord and Power Cable
>Star Wars Pod Racing and Perfect Dark
>Controller
>$10.00

>PSX
>A/V Cord and Power Cable
>Two Controllers
>Tomb Raider and Crash Team Racing
>$8.00

Seriously, this place is a gold mine, haven't been in recently though. They always have a shit load of Sega Genesis games, but never the system itself.

A guy that owned a thrift store said he bought a shrink-wrapped NES from a garage sale for $2. Purchased from a super old lady and it was intended as a gift that was never given. He knew it was a find, but probably didn't completely comprehend value and sold it for less than half of what it was worth - didn't seem like a recent story. He mentioned it casually an it was relevant to the conversation so I doubt he was fibbing

Well to be honest, I don't see why people hate the Big Game Hunter as much as they do. He doesn't do anything inherently wrong. He buys games, keeps what he wants and sells the rest. He is a collector so I don't see a problem with it at all.

I just nabbed an original Super Mario Nintendo NES cartridge for $30 at a flea market. They had a lot more there, but I'm kind of broke so I just went for the most valuable thing before anyone else unearthed it.

I like to brag about this all the time, but one day I was in a flea market with my GF and passed something that ooked like a US SNES game on a table that was full of random junk. To my suprise it turned out to be Earthbound. My GF noticed that I was nervous but had no idea what it was. I asked the Turkish looking kid how much it was and he said one euro. I almost let out a wim and did not even think about it for a secound.

So I found a game that never got released here for only one euro.

My local trift store also often has old games, but for some reason it prices the sega games for less then anything Nintendo or Playstation related, so I often found Mega Drive/Genesis games for 0,50 cents or les. But the best thing I found there was a box of NES games for 3 euros a pop and one of them was a (bad condition)boxed Legend of zelda. I also found a working CD-i with Both zelda games on it, and hotel mario.

Not far from my house I also found Paper mario TTYD, Viewtiful Joe, Price of Persia(and without knowing it, it still contained a memory card) A box with a NES and 4 boxed NES games and one of them was Duck tales 2 with zapper. I payed 30 euros for it. In the same shop I also found 4 CD-i Zeldas.

I think I'm the only guy in my area who looks for this stuff, and I'm paranoid of telling people of my finds after I told my friend there was a SNES for 30 euros not far from here.

My dad is always looking to buy a house outside of town. He went to this one place and waited around for who ever he was supposed to meet, to show up. No one ever came by. He said it was a real dumpy place that needed a lot of work. He said the garage was open, so he was checking out some stuff and seen this box of games. He figured fuck it, no one's taken it so far, place looked vacant, and the person who was going to show him the place didn't show up, so he snagged it. He said I could have the box for $20. Most of the games were CIB, including Castlevania Bloodlines. Wasn't anything else real note worthy. Things like B.O.B, Star Trek, Aero The Acro-Bat, 2 empty cases with manuals (Earth Worm Jim and Sub-Terrania). I think there was about 12-15 games all together. 4-5 were loose.

I bought my SNES at a yard sale, during my summer vacation in Sweden.
The price was around €20, it came with super mario world, jurassic park and a boxed secret of mana. It even still has the poster/world map in it.

I also bought an atari 2600 jr for €8.
It came with asteroids, space invaders, ms. pac-man, 2 pong controllers and an NES like d-pad controller.

I tend to do flea market runs on my Saturdays off from work. I've found a few good things in the past (not so much lately). Here's a rundown of some things:

-Boxed Sega Dreamcast with 2 controllers, 3 VMUs (one boxed) and 11 games, including Shenmue, Ready 2 Rumble Boxing, Crazy Taxi, Rayman 2, Sonic Adventure and some Sega Sports games. All for $30.

-Black Sega Sports edition Dreamcast. Came without the cables and what not, but I have all of that and it had the first Resident Evil Code: VERONICA disc inside. Just $5 there.

-Game Gear with Sonic 2 and Sonic Chaos. Unfortunately, the LCD screen is fucked. Cost me $15, though.

-Master System with two controllers, Space Harrier and Alex Kidd for $10.

-I've managed to also pick up Sonic Jam ($3), Power Stone 2 (complete, $7), Mega Man 8 (PlayStation version, complete, $2), Super Mario Bros. 3 ($3), Kirby's Dreamland 2 ($4), StarFox with TMNT IV: Turtles in Time (together for $5), Metal Gear ($2), Super Game Boy (came with the box for $7) and Panzer Dragoon (complete, $5).

Haven't had much luck lately. Most places I normally hit up (like Goodwill and said flea market) tend to get picked through by fucking resellers early in the morning. Meanwhile, other sellers who know nothing about video games either have a shit ton of sports games or overprice their games just because they're old.

This one guy wanted $25 for Super Mario Bros. 2. My general rule is if I can get it cheaper on the Virtual Console, PSN or Steam, just move along and look elsewhere.

I was at a car boot sale yesterday. Guy was selling a lot of old games, mostly SNES and MD, mostly junk, but he did have a copy of Cool Spot (MD). Now, I already have Cool Spot, but the manual is missing the front and back, and the cover-insert has this weird brown stain down the front - so I figured I'd get it on the cheap.

He wanted £30 for it. He wanted £30 for every individual MD game there - and a lot of the shit there was not worth £30. We're talking Aladdin, Castle of Illusion, Mega Games I, a whole raft of FIFA. So I ask him why - "Well everything is complete in box" - like this was somehow uncommon, like Sega didn't ship all their games in shithard plastic cases.

Anyway, he got mad when I tried to tell him that this stuff wasn't rare, and that he had managed to out-price ebay by 300%. That didn't go down well.

I did manage to get a nice vintage sansui receiver while I was there. I'm a sucker for those colourfil lit screens and shiny twisty knobs. Unfortunately, it has awful headphone output, but for £5, I can live with it.
