I just beat Kingpin again. It's better than I thought.

First time, I didn't purchase a lot and didn't use the helpers when I could. This time, I made suer to top on up ammo and armor, then spend the cash to get followers before heading out on a mission. Helps a lot when you have someone that can draw enemy aggro, especially if they have the SMG.

For when I had to go solo, I tried to lure enemies out one at a time. Worked pretty well, but there were some rooms where getting hammered by everyone at once is almost impossible to avoid.

The game was easier than I remembered once I got used to handing the enemies and staying the fuck away from them so that they'd miss more often. The parts before you get the SMG and the Trainyard are still a pain in the ass, but I was able to handle them better than I did my first time around. Bazooka abuse and using the HMG for long-range shots helps makes the Trainyard a lot more manageable.

Unreal, SiN, Kingpin, Action Quake 2, System Shock 2, and even trendsetters Half-Life and Counter-Strike have that experimental feel that gives you the feeling the devs loved throwing around whatever ideas they had in their heads into the world of truly 3D games.

Daikatana is like the anti Quake 2. While Quake 2 is lean, fast, and polished Daikatana is rough, ambitious, and has some questionable design decisions. I really wish there was a place for both styles of game because getting new
weapons every episode that behaved differently was awesome but I still think Q2 is a much better game for multiplayer. I also think you need to be a Quake fan to really appreciate Daikatana and what it offers. I would love to see the movement in another game.

>> No.4208509

>>4208349

I'm an genuine Daikatana fan that replays it a bit and has played a lot of MP. My opinion is that there's a good game buried underneath the godawful Episode 1 and questionable choices.

Episodes 2 and 3 are honestly great and I'd recommend anyone play them without partners slowing you down, especially if you liked the basic ideas behind Hexen 1 and 2. However, SP Episode 1 is so terrible I don't blame anyone for quitting while in it.

Daikatana is basically two very fun games sandwiched in between two awful games (well, some parts of Episode 4 were good at least). I can get what Romero was trying to go for, but it's clear he bit off more than he could chew and tried to play catch-up with Carmack when he should've been out doing his own thing, like Epic and Valve were doing. Even trimming the (IMO, pointless) partners would've made the game better received, though Episode 1 would still fuck it up

The game has some points in it's favor, such as the great movement, the really fast gameplay core, and the enjoyable Episodes 2 and 3, but getting past the awful Episode 1 is still a very tough pill to most to swallow, even at the best of times.

I've been thinking about the story of Marathon a lot recently, and I've come to the conclusion Spoilers ahead obviously: The entirety of Infinity, or at least the ending, is not real. No, I'm not referencing the dream levels. I know they're dreams. I'm talking about the last chapter of the game, those levels are supposed to be real, but they're definitely dream levels too. There's a few obvious clues about this
1. The W'rkncacnter can be heard wailing on the level Naw Man He's Close when he's supposed to be imprisoned
2. Tycho refers to himself on Bagged Again as "doubt". Thoth later also refers to the W'rkncacnter as "doubt" on the final level. These levels are near side by side, with Bagged Again being a strictly narrative based level, this was VERY MUCH intentional
3. Greyscale Pfhor appear on YTYBT?YGDBT, which are only seen in dream levels. After this, we go to the final level. This is supposed to be a *real* level, but that's impossible
4. On the final level, the S'pth'Kr tell you that they contained the nova, but there's no sight of the W'rkncacnter. That's because this isn't real life, it's just a dream world.

That depends on the timeline. The first level? Kinda hard to tell. All we know is
1. The player was never sent to Lh'owon
2. Still (most likely) at least 17 years after Marathon 1
As for the other other timelines, they're definitely implied to take place during M2. With the second timeline where you're assisting Tycho and the Pfhor following events of M2 pretty closely except Durandal contacted the S'pth'Kr without your assistance. I don't think that just because Infinity takes place during different timelines that it isn't canon.

It's difficult to talk about this because the game is intentionally vague. I don't think the Security Officer is in 2 different places at once, I think the way it works is when he hops timelines (which run parallel to one another), he assumes the place of where he currently was in that timeline, hence why on levels like Rise Robot Rise and By Committee you're imprisoned. SiN's ending sequence is so shit compared to the rest of the game. Munt Phoenix looks like a barebones prototype for a much more ambitious map that was slapped into the game at the last minute to fill in space. It basically uses the same texture for most of the map, almost no details (except for a random pipe you can destroy), and has only three enemies you fight.

The final boss afterwards is extremely repetitive and has far too much health to be fun. His arms don't have hitboxes for some bizzare reasons, so a lot of what you think will be hits will actually miss him instead. Thanks!

The rest of the game is good to great though. The robot factory, missile silo, waterworks, underwater base, and the gorge are the best parts. Geothermal has a ton of interactivity between the two maps, but it relies on the undead cyborgs a little too much and some of the enemy encounters in it feel like they weren't really tested before shipping.

Infighting pretty much does wonders in M1. Basically, if an enemy (say, Pfhor - because not all enemies infight) gets low in hp, and he gets a blow from another enemy, that doesn't kill him, that enemy goes berserk - and it starts attacking everyone around him. And THOSE enemies don't respond until THEY go berserk. And so on, until there are at least some berserking enemies left.

While TCing, I used that on Pfhor on the first levels of the game a LOT in order to save ammunition, which there was clearly not enough.

While I understand where you're coming from, I think T2 is the superior game with T2 classic because its basically Tribes 1.5. I also have Midair and it feels like T1/T2 Classic but a bit streamlined.

I've always thought that part with the dynamite throwing guys looked scripted. Sometimes mappers use unintended tricks to make things like scripted events, like using game's effects in ways they're not meant for. It's very possible this is what happens here and the "unintended way" doesn't work with BloodGDX, but hoesntly this is just a wild guess.

In any case I've never seen them do that when playing with the actual Blood.

I've been trying to find a YouTube video where they chopped up one of Duke's voice lines into "I'm here to KICK ASS and KICK ASS, and I'm all out of KICK ASS!"
Anyone know what that's from? It's probably from some Gmod video but I haven't had any luck. Please help me, /vr/.

No, been playing them since the 90's.
There are lots of awesome FPS games for the Amiga, just most people don't know about them.

"two guns use the same ammo and one does more damage but fires slower and vice versa" is the worst meme

Why? It's variety and works well if used properly in a linear shooter.

Medium to close range when you need to kill something fast before it kills you. Yes, normally you'd get a shotgun to do that but you can run out of ammo or not have it if it's MP.

Anyone know how to install Deathwish for Blood on the current GOG version? I'm dying to play this mod but have no idea how to install it and guides for the GOG version currently don't work.

I'd love you forever if someone could let me know.

Does Quarantine count? Played the shit out of this in the mid 90s. Remember someone telling me that the hookers would bang you if you give them a ride, so a lot of time was spent investigating that...

Have you ever asked yourself why they are boring?
>It's always Columbine
>There's never enough students
>You never walk into a classroom full of students
>The students never throw books at you
>The teacher never gets his gun
>The police never show up
>You never have to escape
>You never discover dark secrets about your school
No wonder you think they're boring. Anyone whose ever attempted it only looked at it from a shock value perspective and never a gameplay perspective.
